I used to use Mega Disk Pro to catalogue my CDs, but it isn't being developed anymore. The thing I liked about the software is that I could insert a CD in my computer, query CDDB, and get the track list automatically. I could export the list into something more searchable (XML, cvs database, whatever) and it took a lot less time to catalogue 1000+ CDs.

I'm looking for another program that will do the same thing. I've started playing with iTunes (against my batter judgment :)), but I don't know if it saves the queries into the XML library list. Anyone know of any software that queries the CDDB and saves the results to a database or XML file? I'd like something reasonably inexpensive (~$20-$30). I'm not looking for a "full-featured" ripper/player, but if it's in the price range, it's all good. :)
 
No matter what OS you use.... they do the job

but have a look at Catraxx see what all the hype is about as its a Great program

Visitrax from Synapsa Software free trial, cost about $30, free upgrades, you can search on any field, imports/exports music lists in various formats. Interfaces with Winamp for mp3 file maintenance if using mp3s. Also searches freedb.org .Been using it for a number of years now as my primary music catalog on my desk and laptop in the field.

I almost have it working on Linux with WINE. But having Cdrom drive recognition issues.
 
AudioGrabber stores all the disc info into a text file (discs.txt) -- it's free :)

I thought it was fairly simple :)

The new Rockit has freedb lookup built in (it plays CDs now too :)), so if I get a chance, I'll rob a little of my own code, and throw something together.

Hmmm, I could probably charge for that -- what's it worth to you folks...?

Why is it the stoners have so many brilliant among them?
 
Catraxx also is a free trial as well when you buy it you get more to store after 50x cd entries

also you can catalog Vinyl 7"singles cassettes etc etc
its not limited like a few others (I wont mention)

can they do that as well - and have access to online databases..
export to other programs and import from many as well

plus you can suggest improvements along the way.. on thier forums

What format do you want it in? :)

I added a cataloging feature to Rockit this morning -- nothing fancy, as it really deserves it's own program, which I will get to after this release. But the new Rockit already has the CDDB lookup, so it was a simple matter to just drop the file I/O in there.

I am basically throwing them out into a CSV file, with a format of:

CDDB DiscID, Artist, Title, Track#, TrackTitle, Length, etc.

So, each line contains an entire album.

Suggestions...

Anywho,

I revised this a bit, and put in XML format, as that seemed easier to import to other software. The spec is pretty simple, and I'll make available with the docs that come with the software.
 
I guess "prettier" wasn't the right word - sorry.

I'm looking for the ability to have the catalog in some kinda search & reporting interface. I want to make sure I don't buy duplicate CDs or songs (yes, with over 1000 CDs and 5000+ more mp3/iTunes/wma songs, it has happened), or mistakenly say I don't have it when it's somewhere in my library already. It's also nice for inventory & insurance purposes to print out a list.
 
Visitrax does that. In fact that's how I find requests on the fly... especially since I am all CD. I keep a copy of my database on my Notepad that I take with me. I can search by any of the fields. With today's spellings in titles it helps to be able to search from several angles.
 
Yep, works fine :)

Come to think of it, I have yet to find any programs I use on a regular basis, that don't work on Vista. Only certain hardware drivers, usually ASIO junk, and some video drivers.

You can also run any program in XP compatibility mode, if you run into any issues.

Fairly simple to parse via Excel or any XML parser.

After I get the latest Rockit out the door, I will do a catalog program that uses the same format. I figure I sell it for $10, and get maybe 500 people to buy it, and I can retire... :sqlaugh:

In all seriousness, it's a simple project for me, as I already have the code base to do the entire thing. Maybe a couple days tops, and I will get it out AR (After Rockit). And yes, I will charge $10 (Wonder Dog likes good food). :)
