New speakers from QSC announced today

First there is the CB10, a battery powered 10" 2-way unit. From a spec perspective, it slots between the Everse 8 and 12. The specs are a hair better than the Everse 12. The 127 dB SPL output is 1 dB higher than the Everse12, and response goes to 51 Hz (4 Hz lower than the Everse). The more important specs are that the price is $300 cheaper than the Everse12 and 4 pounds lighter. I hope to get a demo unit of this soon.



Their 2nd new speaker is the LS218 a dual 18" subwoofer that produces 141 dB SPL and response down to 35 Hz. This thing measures 40" across by 25x27. Weight and price is not yet published. Casters are available but battery power isn't lol. The LS series is not aimed at the DJ market. It is aimed more at the concert market.

OMG! Just what I Don't Need more Speakers and subs' I have enough. If I can't do what I have I need to retire.

Finally, someone came out with a high quality 10" battery powered speaker. I need to find out what the weight is on this one! This would make for a great cocktail hour speaker, or wireless filler speaker in various rooms assuming it sounds great.

They seem like they're late on this battery market, but perhaps have a better option for those that still need one. They were also very late on the column speaker market.

I used to think of QSC as a leader, and now it just seems like they're a copycat brand.

Their market has changed and their focus has shifted. The commercial side of their business (Q-Sys) is much larger than the pro audio side. They jettisoned a lot of the slower moving pro products (Touchmix, most amps, etc). They are innovating like crazy with the Q-Sys products. The company was sold a few years back for over $1B. Not many other audio companies can come close. Yamaha is a bigger company overall but they are extremely diversified (consumer audio, musical instruments, motorsports, golf, automotive OEM, manufacturing, networking, etc).

QSC was late with the columns but acoustically, they have one of the best solutions out there. Most columns made from small discreet drivers have numerous acoustic flaws (you simply can't cheat physics). The KC12 has the most even coverage and highest SPL for its class. I would like to see them expand their class though such as a smaller (e.g. 10") column.

I hope to pick up a demo CB10 at NAMM next week.

I got a pair of QSC CP8 speakers, and bags for my birthday. I gotta say, these are some REALLY FINE speakers. I got a good deal on them from IDJNOW. Unfortunately, only one speaker, the two bags, and two XLR cables made it by my birthday, but one speaker got lost in the UPS black hole! IDJNOW did right by me though, and shipped another one, but it came one day after my birthday. I won’t use these speakers a lot, but it’s nice to have good quality gear to use when you need it!

My neighbor has a pair of CP8s. I have helped at many gigs. It is a very competent speaker. Not many frills though.

My opinion, the Everse 12 sounds crappy and weak and the box is way too bulky. I own an Everse 8. Excellent unit and small size. The mixer app is beautiful. I just bought the CB10 a few weeks back. It's just a bit larger than the Everse 8. Sounds much better and much louder. The mixer app is good but it doesn't have compression on the channels (like the EV products). Highly recommend the CB10.
