Looking at getting DJ crank stands any thoughts?

I'm looking into getting a pair of crank stands to put speakers on. I decided to ask here first since I get beat up for not asking first. I would love a pair of crank stands so that way you don't have to lift the speakers but so high and then crank them to the height you want. Any suggestions please.
 
Didn’t you just buy stands? I have both crank up and pneumatic stands. Both are much heavier than regular stands. And you still have to lift the speakers up to get it on the stands. There are ways to get speakers up on the stands, you just need more room. I use the procedure when I need to put my 85lb speakers on stands. At that weight then you need crank ups if you want to go higher. You really need to plan everything out fully before spending to avoid wasting money.

The QSC K12.2 system I just bought weight 40 pounds. They are heavy but not super heavy like the speakers I had. Those speakers were made out of wood. The QSC's are constructed with heavy duty plastic. Not others that cost much less and use cheap plastic for the speakers.
 
I have crank stands. They weight about 15 pounds each. The minimum height is around 48" - so the initial lift onto the stand remains an issue. They do let me get the speakers nice and high - I think the bottom of the speaker can be around 90" off the floor.

Why do you think you need crank stands, I am very curious for your answer

In my case, I play in big enough rooms, that I almost always want the tops 2-ish ft over the heads of people. This gives a much better sound distribution in a large(r) room...and avoids blowing the heads off anyone who is within 10ft of the speakers. I rarely setup on an elevated stage - so to get the speakers 7-8ft off the floor I need crank stands - non-crank stands just don't get tall enough.

I wasn't planning on buy anything cheap. I saw a crank stand on Ebay for $130. They look nice.

Ultimate has non-crank stands that certainly can go this high.

Supports heavy weight with safety​

With most speaker stands, you set the shaft-height first, then try to balance the speaker cabinet on top. This is difficult and dangerous, especially with the beefy loudspeakers needed for larger venues. Power Crank stands are different. You mount the speaker first, then extend the shaft. There's no need to reach over your head, trying to balance all that weight with one hand while searching desperately for the mounting slot with the other. These stands support up to 100 pounds each, offering plenty of support for the largest PA rigs. These are great stands, especially if you're an old timer like me. After 35 years of lifting, carrying, and grunting with pa speakers, not having to lift them over my head is a treat!
Ease of Use
Easy as pie! The power drill makes life even easier (although the power drill itself is an inexpensive one- when it quits, I'll use my Makita!)

I've used On Stage stands for years, without any problems.

I would recommend these stands ot anyone who wants to "lighten the load" during setup and breakdown.

All of these crank stands are a joke,

The hardest part of the lift is from the floor to your shoulders - and that doesn't change with ANY of these stands. Rigging is called "Flying" for a reason - and it's because there is no lifting involved.

If your speakers are too heavy to lift onto stands - they don't belong on stands,.

Adrian, I will give you a tip that helps with lifting a little bit, actually two tips.

1. What my sister has done for many years, is she puts her speaker sideways on the table she is using while nothing is on the table yet. She puts the stand into the socket, then lifts the speaker and stand together to an upright position. This also eliminates trying to find the socket hole while you are lifting.

---Now I have never done it that way, so i can't speak to how much easier it makes the process, but she has done this for like 15+ years and says it is easier for her.

2. If you squat and "lift with your legs" slowly, and keep the speaker as close as you can to your chest (This is called the lifting green zone) it will put far less strain on your back. This might be a challenge if you have bad knees though.
