Wow, I have been doing it wrong. I should not have gone in to any of the venues that recommend me. I should have instead at around and did nothing and let them come to me. Imagine all the driving I could have avoided.
You missed it. You said a venue recommended you. I wasn't talking about that. For them to recommend you they have to know something about you. I was talking about going in cold turkey trying to get them to recommend you.

I'm sure venues have plenty of DJs coming in trying to sell themselves. Making fantastic claims. The question is can they back up the claim? Of course you have a leg up when someone recommends you.

No that is exactly what I am talking about. I missed nothing. When I wanted a venue to recommend me I walked in cold and sold them on me. I then was given a shot in their venue and bingo was put onthe recommended list. Happens all the time but you think it only happens when you get to play a venue instead of trying to do any leg work.

Sorry I ruffled your feathers. I was just going by what you said. You said you were recommended by a venue. Now you said you went in a venue to sell yourself and they gave you a shot. Doesn't that also have to be ok with a client to have you be the DJ for their event? Now you go in and prove to the people running the venue you're a great DJ and they should have you do work in their venue. It still should be left up to the client right? Now in some places they won't allow an outside vendor to do an event in their venue. They only allow vendors who they have on their list to work there. Now I'm glad to see that in some cases you're able to convince you're able to convince a venue you would be a great addition to work in their venue. Kudos for being able to pull that off. My guess is somewhere down the line they have heard about you and the great work you do. That's a big leg up.

Not busting your chops and I don't mean any disrespect. I would love to see a picture of your setup at an event please. That can make a big difference when selling yourself besides showing people having a great time at an event you're doing.

229 word to say nothing of any relevance.

I don't know what is sadder.
That Mix needed 229 words to repeat what was said in three previous posts,
or that you actually wasted your time COUNTING those words.
Hopefully, you only counted words and didn't have to actually read them.

How long has your partner lived across the street from a venue he's never played at?

Perhaps the partner was just too classy to play in such a dump.

You've been talking loud and saying nothing for years. Besides in this case with this event I'm trying to get as much info as I can since my partner is only giving me vague responses. I just got the name of the venue and phone numbers to call. The pictures online of the place are nice. Not a very large place. So 2 tops will be just fine. Besides my friend told me who has done at least one event there that the load in is hard.

Mix, you’ve been getting vague answers about gigs from this partner for years. The first time it happened was his fault. Every other time you accepted it, that was your fault.
With my guys, its very clear the information required to put it into our booking system. They learn right away that if they don’t have the proper information, a down payment, and a signed contract, the gig is not yet booked

Is your partner the DJ? If so...HE should be the one to get the information.
Do you have wedding information sheets for the client to fill out?
Do you know what information is required and what questions to ask for a wedding?
This isn't a backyard party or a gig in the park...where you have few rules and no pressure if you fail.
This is someone's WEDDING DAY.

Simple cut/copy/paste and let the Word processor count...took about 5 secs.

Damn I forgot. It's Mixy's job to provide the big speakers.....
No big speakers for this event and the contract is in place. The issues I have are with the venue and how many people will be attending the event? Remember we're in a situation like never before. We're in a planadimic and what restrictions are put on the venue besides simply wearing mask. What is the limit for the number of people who can attend the event? My guess is it's far below it's normal capacity to satisfy the fire marshall code.

I just don't want us in a situation where we can get fined or sued. Don't want the police showing up and shutting things down, with us getting fined

Mix, Your not going to be sued
your partners contract!

Let's look at this another way. Some places haven't been able to do any business for the last 4 months and can be seriously hurting for money. Even though a place may have been shut down doesn't mean ills stop coming. So some venues may not go by Covid 19 guide lines and just do whatever. So I would want to make sure a venue is doing things properly and just helter skelter just to make some money.
