NY born and raised. Living in NJ.
I played a wedding yesterday knee deep in Hackettstown, NJ. Provided wireless Uplights, ceremony mic and music and of course 5 hours of reception dancing.

Even though there was no rain, the weather was slightly breezy with a boat load of mist. I had to wipe my gear down all day because the damn wedding was outdoors with no tents or covering. My personal pop up tent did no good. I really feel bad for exposing my gear to those conditions.

The minute I got home. I unloaded everything and opened all cases and covers to let my gear air dry in the garage. I doubt there will be any damage to my stuff, but this is the last time I will play in conditions like this.20181006_155922.jpg20181006_155949.jpg20181006_161041.jpg

Sorry about the mist, but what a beautiful setting![emoji4]

DJ JohnThe 1-- Been in your situation before and it definitely sucks! It only takes on time to hit home that no outdoor events unless me and my gear are protected from the elements. After my first incident, if it was outdoors without a tent, I brought a large beach umbrella and weighted stand with me. If it was direct sun, the umbrella went up behind me to shade both me and my equipment. I even attached a small umbrella "cap" to my "mains" on tripods. And, if it looked like rain...I had plastic trash bags (the large, long size leaf bags) and the same for my subwoofers. I always set my subs on the top of an up-side-down black milk crate where I had attached a plywood top that was larger than the base of the subwoofer. I carried a 5lb. baby hammer with me to aid in leveling the milk crates and tri-pod speaker stand legs. I'm all about aesthetics so the setup needed to be equal height. Even brought with me several pieces of wood and cedar shake shingles that would help with leveling the DJ table legs, IF I was to be setup on the grass/dirt.

I learned quickly, that I didn't play on dirt where the wind would blow sand into my subwoofers. However, a skirt of thin black cloth velcro'd in the rear kept dust from getting into the subwoofer grill front. Hated the idea of having to vacuum and wipe down speakers...and equipment the next day.

Art, I like your game plan. I won't be doing this again. The beach is another place I find it a pain in the butt to play at. I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind for future gigs.

Sorry that happened to you. One member when it comes to doing an outside event has in his contract that covering is required or he will refuse to do the event. He's very strict with that in his contract. It sucks anytime a situation like that happens. Good luck in the future.

A cover when you’re outside is nice, but really doesn’t keep sand or blowing rain off your gear. But worse than that is the HEAT!!!... Bad for speakers, bad for computers, and BAD for ME!!![emoji1] I’d sweat profusely DJing outside fully clothed in 85+ degree heat. Perhaps I’d be OK at a naturist pool party???[emoji1]... Nah... gear would still be exposed to the elements.[emoji1]

Pictures posted sideways for some reason. Can a mod please fix this for me? Thanks

I tried to turn them but I couldn't seem to. I did make them bigger though LOL

Depends on the kind of cover. They have coverings that cover all sides of a tent/up tent. Then it also depends on the placement of the gear as well.

They have ones with screens you can see out of and keep the elements out. Nice size that could fit all your gear in. It would be a bit tight but depending on the gear used it can work.

It's been misty here in Michigan too. I've dealt with humidity many times but not this misty stuff.

DJ JohnThe 1 is 100% correct. Wife and I are up on Long Island for our Grandaughter's Christening - had a big party afterwards at my sons house with large canopy in the backyard. It is just plain MUGGY!!

It's like that outside right now in CT .. basically you walk through wet fog.

Hackettstown, New Jersey????
That's not far from me at all!
I grew up right across the border in Easton, PA...
and we used to frequent a nightclub down there in my early roadie days!
