Not bustin' yer chops today Chuck ;), but honestly dude?

If you have to rely on a free web host to promote your product/service, the potential client already knows what they are dealing with...

As mentioned in another thread here, you have to spend money, to make money.

I do think most clients understand what youtube is. I'm not saying it is the best way for someone selling a service, but I do think potential clients are perfectly happy to go there and look.

Look at it this way: If you put it on your own site, people who specifically come to your site looking for it will see it. If someone sees it on youtube while browsing, they may become your customer "accidentally", by running across your video.

In a perfect world, maybe you would do both. I do know that I have had 2 clients ask me if I have anything to look at on youtube. Well, potential clients, anyway; I didn't book either one. But I imagine that PLENTY of DJ's ARE doing this if clients are ASKING ME if I have anything on youtube to see.

That is all I am saying.

I get what yer saying Chuck.

Here's my point though (I'm sure you couldn't wait to here :)):

YouTube, YourJunk, FreeSpock, or whatever, they are all social networking, free sites.

I wouldn't think of putting my business on any of those sites (my personal opinion).

It's demeaning in my eyes. It's looking for a free handout, so to speak.

If you care about your business -- you advertise, spend money to build it and get name recognition, etc.

All I know, is I wouldn't look on YouTube, MySpace, etc., for a service (maybe a hot date if I was really that hard up) ;)

SoftJock, perhaps you don't market to schools, and I can see your viewpoints. I market through schools and MySpace is the best tool. Every student always lights up and asks "you guys have MySpace?"

You're right, they know exactly what kind of company they're dealing with-- the kind that puts out an incredible service and knows how to use YouTube and MySpace. :)

Arnoldo, if that's what works for you, ok.

Just remember who writes the check -- not the students, but the faculty...

Also, when those students grow up, they will have to deal with real life, and that ain't YouTube. They will eventually become the faculty ;)

Yup.. and the faculty likes that we're on edge.

They like the fact that we're a professional company that knows what students want.

They like the fact that we show up on more than just the prom/homecoming date.

Thet like the fact that students know who their DJ is from day one.

Yup, it works for me.

And you're right-- the faculty writes the check. But the money comes from the students.

Yup, it works for me.

Cool :)

I won't argue with you. But, I will leave you with a few lyrics, sort of a fountain of truth, as it were (you'll probably understand it when yer about my age ;))...

"I've done a bit of smuggling
And I've run my share of grass
I've made enough money to buy Miami
But I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last
Never meant to last"

I've worn out those t-shirts long ago. I've learned to take care of my customers at least as good as my family and myself. YouTube ain't for my family, friends or customers.

I may not be 'on edge', but they return the favor ;)

Rick, Colorado Sound and Light is a reputable company, eh? Page down, after hitting the CSL products tab.

Don't know? I don't get a products tab... Just a blank page with a menu on the left.

Cool :)

So what you're saying is that because I used YouTube to show a video to you guys (as Kelly and I said that this goes on a DVD) and that I use MySpace to market DIRECTLY to each school's SGA that this makes my product inferior? LMAO!

Yes, this will never be as professionao as websites such as the Perfect Wedding Guide where brides ignore any emails sent because they gets hundreds of them per day (my fiance and I are enrolled... ohh boy).

HUH? :sqerr:

When I click on the link a page opens up. There is a tab for CSL products.... click it. Then scroll down.... CSNL uses LOTS of youtube promos, as on their site, at this link.

Arnoldo,

Don't make statements that you don't intend to follow up with. We loose (ei. don't book) clients all the time for a variety of reasons. Clients decide on a company for so many reasons (many of them stupid reasons) it's crazy. Heck, for all you know, a competitor might use the fact that it's on Youtube against us because it's "non-professional" and that you are a skate rink dj. I know it's crazy, but it could happen ;)

(Resisting the urge... Kelly, should I?)
