So I played something Friday night

The "dance" version has over 1.7 BILLION views, so I would assume the kids have all seen it ..

Well at least it is MERCIFULLY SHORT! I’ll bet the lyrics were a REAL challenge for most of the kids.[emoji1]

15 to 16 years old? Ok I'll add the remixed dance versions in case I need it.
But I am heading to my kitchen to put a rum into my tea. I know I said I didn't like playing some of the newer music the kids wanted but I wasn't expecting this. But a least it isn't that's mumble rap . I'm also going to run it by my son and see what he has to say.

Definitely kindy kids would like it, but you'd better put on some bullet proof armour if you played it at a high school..surely?
But i guess the current Billboard top 40 is so appalling that nothing surprises me anymore..

I was playing a high school Sadie Hawkins dance and they loved it. Gonna try it again tomorrow night for another Sadie Hawkins.

No its actually meant for high school and college aged kids as they are the one's who have made it viral on social media. If you're a dj for teenage groups, it is important to stay on top of viral trends, even if they last for two weeks. During those two weeks, you're gonna have a bunch of kids requesting that random song that went viral... just like my boo two years ago.

...Teenagers of 2017 being excited about the music their much older aunts/uncles/cousins, and possibly parents were excited about when the song came out and went viral the very first time!

Show's how inferior today's music is compared to the stuff from "back in the day!"

90s and prior music for the win every day over the weak sauce tracks that are being printed and pressed in 2018 :)

I mean that may be the case for that song... but what about the keke challenge to "in my feelings" by drake that was the biggest thing all summer... and being that it's a new song, it's still a must play song even after a couple of months.

I played about 100 seconds of it once...Outside of a real drunk couple getting excited, no one else danced to it.

Of course, I hve not done a teenager event since that song became popular on social media, but in terms of weddings, 1 request so far, and 1 couple danced to it.

My Boo I had the request at some prom events when it was big on social media, and the teens were going nuts over it, and I was really taken back as that was something from my high school days LOL.

Outside of "The Middle" I have not had requests for any dance floor filler songs that came out in 2018 at the events I have performed so far. ...2017 Only had Despacito has a popular dance song. Very few A grade songs coming out these days, and the ones that might be popular for a couple of months are gone the next year generally speaking.

Most popular songs of 2018 are what so far? ...God's Plan by Drake, Girls Like you by Maroon 5, I Like it by Cardi B, One Kiss by Dua Lupa (The couple for Saturday night's wedding had that on their Must PLay List - hardly any danceers). All weak sauce tracks for dancing, and nobody will be requesting these songs 12 months from now.

My favorite song this year is the middle so far. It is catchy, and women relate to it and like it a lot.

...I hope we are in a crap cycle for music, and awesome tracks are a year or 2 away, otherwise the next couple years of deejaying won't see anything new and awesome.

2018 Has a lot of big songs amongst teenagers... but they're mostly in the hip hop genre. For example around here songs like freaky friday, chun li, in my feelings, better now, mo mamba, nice for what, ric flair drop are all big tracks that im playing at teen events besides the ones you mentioned. Yes there are also alot of edm tracks I'm playing at those too... but as far as mainstream 120-128 tracks go, not so much aside from one kiss. Being that wedding aged couples grew up with more "dance" tracks, the current "hot" tracks are not making it into their playlists tho since it's not their familiar style... unless they too listen to hip hop... which the clubgoing crowds will.
