FIRTS I am not looking or want a hope your OK. I just got back form having a stent in, I had a 99% blockage in 1 and 30% in another. It got me thinking a lot more about everything even Djing. Now I've probably have 10 or more years on Most everyone here. This really makes me think its a young mans business. I love djing and probably wont stop but it my slow me down alot. First what middle school wants grampa doing the dance or grampa doing a prom. As for weddings younger people seem to stick with someone younger with more energy. If you think not ask yourself what age group do You relate to. They say age is only a number Bullshit ,the golden years DON'T get old

It's always good to review especially after health issues

I had stents put in almost 13 years ago after a couple of heart attacks I was 35 at the time. I had one 99% and one 85% blocked. I still have a small one blocked in there they tell me but my health has been good since

I've been pretty fortunate... petty good health for my entire life. I expected to have a massive heart before I was 60 like my father did, and most of the other men in my family. Didn't happen[emoji4], but I was so sure I wasn't going to live long enough to retire, that I retired early. Nobody knows what would have happened if you had done something different, but there are times I wonder if I should have worked a few more years. My job was really stressful though, so who knows??? It might have killed me.[emoji1] As it turns out, heart disease is NOT a problem for me... heart's in great shape. Allergies are my worst problem... and typical old age stuff like worn out knees and back. I played basketball well into my 40's, and while it was good for my heart, not so much for my joints.[emoji4]

Red, I sympathize. This year I got diagnosed with a 70%+ stenosis in the artery at the base of my brain (the worse place to have it). In my case, drugs seem to be fixing it so hoping to avoid a stent. I'm just glad that your procedure was successful and hoping that your prognosis is good. You're right though. Boy, there's nothing that will bring your mortality into focus more than a doctor looking you in the eye and saying "You might die from this."

Keeping in good shape will give one an edge in the DJ biz. Don't overdo the buffet and get out there and do the cha cha slide. I've noticed it's harder to get into an exercise routine after being sedentary for a long time.

My Dad had a Quadruple Bypass Surgery in 2008. He still Deejays. He does it 3 days a week in the spring/summer time/fall, and even now his elks club account is having him do 2 friday nights a month, so 3rd and 4th week of the month he has 3 gigs per week in February, March etc. So he is even busier. ...He doesn't do weddings any more. Only handles his 3 accounts he has, and he caters to all older people age 55 and over.

With that said, I truly do not have any desire to be a DJ after age 65...Plus that is 30 years away for me, and I really think the industry will change big time between now and then.

I think you will still DJ, but what you need to do is fine bars/clubs that cater to older crowds only as you get older. My Dad tells me no way he could handle the load in any more at the venues I typically do for weddings. His 3 accounts have fairly easy load ins, and he has nothing in his set up that weighs over 30 lbs any more.

My doctor thinks everyone over 50 should get a heart stress test once a year.

I had one just before my stem cell transplant took place almost 13 years ago.

I've become addicted to the Elliptical machine at the gym. It's my workout b*tch.

Plus I'd like to think I'm helping and testing my heart...although it's tough on my knees.

My Dad has a heart stress test every 6 months since he had his surgery 10 years ago. Hs cholesterol has been at good levels since. Although the Dr. does want him to lose weight. He was doing well, but gained it all back last year because he had real bad leg cramp issues tearing his muscles up (From the cholesterol meds) but his legs are improving a lot lately so he is getting back into walking around every day.

Good for him! I've been trying to GAIN weight for 8 years...hence another reason to go to the gym five nights a week.

I also had a heart attack and a stent put in about 3 years ago. All has been good so far.

Now as to age, I played for a high school disco dance about a month ago and one teacher made a comment that out of the last 4 dJ's the older ones did a much better job with the music.

Cancer and chemo has a way of keeping you a bit thin...
I wish you well on the treatment .. it runs in my family as well. Diabetic medication has taken off 25+ pounds, but I still need to firm up a bit more.

Undergoing Radiation treatment just finished week 4 of 9 (5 days a week) for Prostate Cancer. Full knee replacement to take place in April. Looking at life in a different lens now days. Good luck and perseverance toward completing your goals. I especially like it when kids file out of the gym or party and willingly give me a "hi-five", but a like their comments I think, "Not bad for an ole guy!" LOL I take it as a compliment. I'm in my early 70's and doing less events now. It's pretty easy doing 55+ community events.

Guys, I was diagnosed on 8-25-2005 and had the stem cell transplant from my sister on 5-22-2006.

So I'm coming up on 13 years and aside from no sense of smell or taste, really bad neuropathy in my feet and legs up just above my knees and really stiff knees, all is well.

ain't we all a fine bunch. Was in the ER yesterday for breathing problems turn out medication was doing it. As one gets older it should bring with you more experience and knowledge
Twinspin gotta ask you do you feel comfortable and enjoy doing the school dance or doing community events. ( my take is this last year or so most top 40 music sucks ) As I start to feel better I wont stop doing this just gotta start looking and doing it in another way. I still say this is a young persons business

Well, to be honest, since I have slowed "way down" I haven't done a school dance (Sr. High) in a very long time. Back then I would use either a truss or two T-bars with 8 lights each bar (Par 38's) on top of each bar were 100 watt flood lights. Bottom four of each T-bar were Blizzard Puck 3's set to sound activated linked to one Master so all eight bottom lights would sync together. When I played a Gym is when the top 8 lights were white flood lights. I would flip the switch and all 8 would come on in case of emergency or rowdiness. Yes it lit up the gym pretty good...and in the eyes of the students! LOL
About 8 years ago, I stopped High School Dances and did only Middle School afternoon dances...no lights.
Last year I did a High School Graduation Party for a student at her parent's restaurant...no lights.
But, since I live in a 55+ community I often play at the Clubhouse for special Holiday events; New Year's Eve 1017 most recent. Here's a shot of my setup. I still have a mirror ball that I suspend from ceiling in middle of room but instead of using corded pin-spots. I rented them from a Sound/Equipment Company here in Florida; 6-pack of battery operated (remote controlled) pin spots (Chauvet EZPin IRC Pin Spot). I only used four. They were perfect for the task; magnet attached unit to non-aluminum ceiling extrusions.) Set four Blizzard Puck 3 for uplighting behind the DJ area.

Well I can't seem to get the photo to upload. I'll try later.
