Example, you won't find high levels of customer support or confidence at Verizon. I doubt you would find them at the lower end of the DJ scale as well.
You're not looking hard enough. It's easy to see failure as it's often used as example. You can't very well sell fancy by pointing out the success of moderate, but it does indeed exist.
My average rates would likely put me in what some (in our business) refer to as the lower-end category. I prefer the term "lower featured". I would match my MC ability, knowledge of music, personality, sound quality, social skills and professionalism with any mobile DJ. These are the basic elements of a successful service.
What I lack (by choice) are extras such as, tuxedos, props, lighting packages, hi-end sound systems, up-lighting, monograms, fancy facades and skrims, photo booths, projected video, planning services, etc., etc., etc. These are often refferred to the so-called "set you apart" features.
None of it makes us better than each other. If you suck at your job, then you suck at your job. It matters not where you are on the scale.
