iPhone app to record using headphone jack as input?

I have a ceremony coming up and thought it would be nice to also record the ceremony. Is there an app for the iPhone that will allow me to record from the headphone jack as an input? Anyone else done something similar? I don't have the budget for a handheld recorder at the moment, just thought it would be nice to surprise the client with.
 
I don't believe the headphone jack mic input can record line levels from a mixer, so a simple dictation type app would work using the built-in mic.

Or, you would need something that brought the signal into the dock connector. The older iPhone 4 had a number of third party adapters that used the large dock connector. Not sure what exists for the lightening connector.

Alternatively, if your USB soundcard is bidirectional, you can record back through it to a laptop.

Looks like that cable pads the line level signal down to mic level and allows recording in mono. To get stereo, you will need to come in through the dock.

I'm curious as to how it sounds as I believe the mic input has EQ applied to it benefiting most headsets/earbud mics .. it may change tonal qualities of a line input.

An inexpensive USB input might be cleaner. The Behringer UCA202 might be the trick: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx $30 at GC and others.

Why use your iPhone? Why not use a dedicated tool for the job? I suggest the Zoom Q2HD. If you can wait, iQ5 is exactly what you want. http://www.zoom.co.jp/news/article/506

Edit. I see now you must want to record audio only. Zoom also makes dedicated hand-held audio recorders too.

I figured I have the phone in my pocket, why not use it to record the vows being exchanged to give to them later (when I ask for reviews ;):) I would like to get the Zoom or this really nice Edirol recorder I have used in the past but just wanted to see if "there is an app for that". For the ceremony I am using just my ipad so the laptop option is out of the picture. My mixer has usb sound cards that go in/out but since I am leaving the laptop at home it's not an option.
 
The Zoom is an incredible tool I don't own one but I have used them a couple of times even the less expensive ones are better than most recorders

Props. Those little Zoom camcorders have incredibly good audio on them and the limiter is surprisingly smooth.
