So far I have done 3 full gigs with Virtual DJ 7 and must say I like it well above the software I have used in the past (Club VJ Pro, RockIt, PCDJ Dex 2, & JustKaraoke). No crash, no library or playlist issues, did not seem to be as demanding on the CPU and ran everything smoothly.. no issues at all.... Just thought I would share...

Ron - Have you done a pure Karaoke show with it yet?

I have nearly the same complement of apps: JustKaraoke 2, PCDJ RedMobile 2, RockIt, and VDJ Express (also Traktor on the iPad). I was seriously thinking of buying the full version if it handled karaoke close to what JK does.
 
I may have to download the demo and play with it.
 
That's how I got hooked. I really like the way it handles the libraries. Fast loading and searching. I can create an m3u playlist with any software I want, store it in the MyDocuments\Virtual DJ\Paylist directory and VDJ picks it right up no issues. I still have a quite a few features to learn, but I must say I find it solid. Especially by comparison to the ones I previously used:
  • ClubVJPro - had seemingly random unexplained crashes
  • RockIt - Unexplained, disappearing libraries and playlist issues
  • PCDJ - Library issues; also did not like having to actually load directories into playlists
  • JustKaraoke - Good for karaoke shows, but seemed to lack some of the smoother DJ type features. (I prefer all in one type software for karaoke and DJ)

My apps have been stable and I typically make playlists in iTunes, and most of these read those directly. I just want to start trimming the fat.
 
Virtual DJ is as easy or as involved as you want it to be. lots of purist dog it because of some features it has (like the sync feature) but now their o so holy grail software (scratch live) has added this and other features that VDJ have had for many years. Multiple decks, VST plugins, video mixing, and best of all time code or controller (or both). Now that serato has caught up Virtual DJ is stepping up its game with Version. 8 with sandbox.
To cut this down into easily digestible lumps — in sandbox mode, you can play the current and next track in a totally isolated environment i.e your headphones. Mess round with them, and when you have the perfect transition points, add an exit cue to the current track and an intro cue to the next track and wait for the transition to happen.

Oh yes VDJ was the first DJ app to able to use on a touch screen.

The touch screen is an OS function, not the DJ software app. You can run any software in touch screen mode.

The availability comes from the OS .. the usability from the app. While most allow the same mouse type operations, a true touch app will handle pinch/pull zooming, hovering options or maybe press and hold options .. just like a smartphone or tablet. People are getting very used to that type of interface.

Nope. It's not a RockIt issue -- it's how they changed the file reading/writing in Win 8.

The quick and simple trick, is to right click on the navigation tree in RockIt, and empty the history list, then everything comes back as normal.

It's a complicated story -- but the bottom line is, I'm not going to rewrite over a million lines of code, because they screwed up.

Short story ... He doesn't sell enough copies to warrant the correction. But, I don't blame you, Rick. You've admitted that your past your DJ prime and are out of touch with what we need in a software.

Yes Randy, I agree I'm past my DJ prime. I enjoy doing a country/rock bar now and then. I just can't carry the equipment anymore.

If all you need is a sync button, then you are probably past your prime as well.

I talk to DJs everyday -- they don't want a lot of those features. I have a ton of dance instructors for example.

I made a bunch of changes to V5 just for you -- and this is how I get treated...?

I was blind, but now I see. VDJ is for me. ;)

Evidently you don't see money in your product or you would develop it.

In your defense, Rick, I would consider your software entry-level. I'm sure you talk with lots of newbies just going digital and want something basic. As they progress, they move up into a more robust piece of software.

You should be ashamed to even mention that you cater to dance instructors. Hehehe. :)
 
Dance Instructors are an under-served part of the music population.
