I saw an ad where a person was looking to book a DJ for their wedding. Let me please say this first of all I couldn't do this wedding if I wanted to which I don't after reading the ad. So now clowning on me please.

This person specificly laid out the music they wanted and made sure to let you know they don't want the DJ playing any rap Sh** as they put it.

The issue with this ad was not with the music. Either you can provide this client with the music they want or you can't. The issue is that insisted that the DJ can't use an Ipod or computer to DJ with. The DJ must use vinyl. I don't know any DJ's who would be able to get the styles of music they want on vinyl. I've seen DJ's who use turntables with 2 records and a computer to DJ with. Where would you even get the records from if you could get them?

Now let me say by reading this ad this person came off as BRIDEZILLA! Too demanding for my taste. Now if I could have pulled the ad up so all could see it here you would know why that ad speaks RUN FOREST RUN!

There are places you can still get vinyl.

Good for you. The request was for Bechata, Salsa, I beleive Miranga and early 50's to 70's stuff. You wouldn't do it. The price wasn't right. They were looking to pay $200.00-$225.00. I know you or me wouldn't do that wedding for such a cheap price.
 
What they're looking to pay and what they will pay may be two different things.

No one likes a smartass... Especially when you leave out key information... All you said was they wanted a DJ that plays frome vinyl records you said absolutely nothing about genre outside of they didn't want any Rap.... Ergo my reply...

Sorry about that homie. I didn't mean to be a smart ass. I just didn't think of posting that. Now Steve how much more do you think you could talk this bride into spending and would it even come close to your starting rate to do a wedding?

Whatever the price I say I would pass because the way they made that ad smelled to me bad news and a control freak that wouldn't listen to any of your suggestions.

No idea until you talk to them to see exactly what and WHY they want things. There is a reason they want vinyl and one would need to work from that.

In the ad they said they felt that a DJ using a computer or Ipod was not a real DJ and they wanted a real DJ. I guess that excuses me from being a real DJ. I got a job to do today and I'll be using my computer with the controller and external HD. Not to mention my 2 Yamaha DSR 115 speakers and one of their matching subs. So I can't possibly be a real DJ. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

I have a similar collection in similar milk crates :) I certainly could do an all vinyl dance but there wouldn't be much after 1992 there but you would be hard pressed to request something I didn't have that was remotely popular before '92

As far as the money for me to take my vinyl out on the road again it would have to be a helluva good deal for me and $225 wouldn't even be the deposit on the job ;) Just the work I would have to do to get used to where everything was at again would be a long process. For the most part my vinyl has been sitting since the mid 90s.

I think Steve hit it on the head any client that demanding and convinced you would have to talk to them carefully before accepting the booking to find out why they want what they want

I need to say this. In that ad the person kept cursing using the S word a few times. Not my ideal of a good ad to post looking to book a DJ to do this wedding. They came off a super control freak. I wouldn't want to work for someone that cursing you out all ready in an ad and you haven't even met with them yet.

Same here, I dropped the record pool in the summer of 92 when Promo Only came out with 12' mixes on CD. So most everything in my collection is now considered be old skool. They last time I spun wax in a club was 97.

Someday(I keep saying this) I'm gonna have an old school dj show using strictly vinyl. It may be at the retirement home but someday.....

Last time I did an inventory on my Vinyl Collection was in the early 80s. I stopped counting when I reached 8,000. Of course I continued adding to the Library up until the year 2001. They are all still here in the house in mint condition. Some are worth beaucoup Dollars as being in one of the top Pools in Boston, we received many special DJ Only Editions for breaking records first in the country. When I rip from Vinyl to CD then to MP3, you can't tell the original was Vinyl.
