I'll give a gig report a bit later on my event from this weekend. What I wanted to share was something my kid did as we were loading up. It's entirely likely, he might just have saved a young lady's life.

My gig was at Liberty Park in Clarksville, TN. This is a huge public park that runs alongside the river. The building has 3 sides which are glass; rolling bay doors. At the end of the gig, I'd pulled my van up right behind our DJ setup and we were busy staging gear outside for loading. At one point, I looked up and my son was running back inside and with a worried look on his face. He went straight to a security guard and a guest (who happened to be a paramedic) and told them he'd just seen a car enter the water, about 200 yards away.

Apparently, a young lady was either trying to commit suicide or had just had a big fight with someone and had lost control of her vehicle after she floored it (my son heard tires squealing). She flew right into a large pond area, inside the park. The two guys took off in a vehicle to help her and I called 911. The B&G and several other guests came outside as well, just about the time you could hear the lady screaming. About 2-3 minutes later, the police and fire department arrived and they did get the girl out. The security guard came back a bit later, congratulated my son on spotting the girl, and told us they had a hard time getting her out of the car.

Now in all fairness, I have no idea whether my son actually saved this girl or not but what I'm pretty sure of is, if this wedding hadn't been happening that night, she likely would've planted that car in the water with nobody around. I was told that park is usually deserted at night. She would've been found the next day.

About 20 minutes after we got down the road, my son's eyes went wide and I think it sunk in as to what had just really happened. Makes a papa proud and I'm glad he was with me. Not sure I would've spotted it. Here's a pic of the park area.

Was the girl in the car a guest at the wedding?

That was the first thought that terrified me but no, she was not. She apparently, floored it over at the Marina (off the top-right of the pic) and picked up speed until she reached the pond. There were guard rails around that pond but she apparently found an open spot. She put it out there but good.

Wow, there's a story he'll remember for the rest of his life...and you, too.
Glad he not only learned to do the right thing, but had the fortitude to DO it!

Sounds cool -- but if someone's not terminally ill -- I'm all for helping them get to the other side of the grass, if they are that stupid or depressed...

Shyt, I've got skin cancer and Parkinson's -- does anybody think I'd jump off the bridge? Hell no, but if while I was walking the bridge, and I encountered some moron saying "don't come close, or I'll jump" -- we just give him a little tap, and see how the 180 feet to the water works...
