I'm in the same boat as @steve149. I generally love Apple's products. OS X is decent, I'm not a huge fan of it especially the later versions that steal features from iOS sorta like Windows 8 -- Yuck. The hardware cost is just too much. Couple it with the fact that you cannot just swap batteries out of their laptops anymore adding to the cost of ownership down the road when the battery has to be replaced. If you spend that much on a machine you're gonna opt to replace the battery 2-3 years out rather than buy another. The Apple Tax is too high for me.
I think they'll come out with a "Mac Friday" before they do that. Come to think of it, I'm copyright / trademarking it right frickin' now!

My nephew just got a new toshiba laptop i7, 17" screen. Where is the battery. There is only one small removeable pannel on the back, about the size of a hard drive.

Apple's products are ok. I can and do play on multiple sides of the computer world. Some are better at some things and others are better at other things.
I agree, it is high - but again, we have the "best windows pc". I don't think it should cost that much - but I think gas prices should be lower too.
I totally hate this. There is no logical reason for it - I imagine Apple wants you to either throw it away and get a new one (or pay alot of money for Apple to do it). In their defense (which I don't back), they have done studies over the years showing their user base preferring to have machines that they don't want to maintain. I think it's a bunch of BS.

Well .. since the "stuff" rolls downhill, as long as you're downstream, we can pick you up.
I completely agree with most everything you guys are saying. I had the same mentality for quite a while. Maybe it is me, or just bad luck, but I was so frustrated with my laptop being the weakest link in my system. Now, it is not. Apple Laptops are not the solution for everyone, but it sure lowers my stress level.

I have 3 pavillions (am using 2 of them tonight) and they've been rock-solid going on 2 years now. Now I have a couple presarios that are junk but these pavilions have been chugging away nicely (fingers crossed).
Presarios came over with the Compaq acquisition and were placed at the bottom of the barrel. The Compaq business class laptops became the basis for the HP business class laptops .. HP didn't really have a consumer laptop prior to that. I know HP well .. spent 23 years with them.
Do any of you have a Windows 7 program? If you do then I think all you would need to do is take out the Windows 8 program and just install Windows 7. I get that Windows 8 was made for touch screen basically. So that certainly doesn't do most of us any good. Experts can what I suggested be done?
You can, if you have the install disks and uninstall it from the previous machine. Also, very shortly, Microsoft is supposed to introduce Win 8.1 which will have a similar look to Win 7, so maybe that will be a better route . I have not played with the development release of 8.1 so I can't say for sure.
I was just pointing this out to others that complain that they don't like Windows 8, they can replace it with Windows 7.

So, who is this really? Do you think we're ignorant enough to think its the real Mix?
I have a thought. Why not do some research before you buy so you don't get stuck with something you don't want and will try to sell later?
