So who else has been asked this question by potential wedding clients:
"Can we come observe you at another wedding reception?"
Ron, Has this happened to you? I have never been asked that question. If one makes a good presentation and answer any objections they should have no trouble closing the deal. I will offer references/referrals upon request. How did you respond?

Now if I had to respond to a question like that (Client is obviously on the offensive) I will immediately turn the "tables" around. I would ask, "Do you want your Wedding to be exactly like my client's or unique to you?" Either way they answer you should be able to handle it with an appropriate response.

Ron, turning the tables is exactly the right thing to do but I usually take it a step farther; "I'm terribly sorry but it's a huge breach of etiquette, if I were to invite you to someone else's wedding." If presented correctly, and firmly, you'll get the reaction, "Wow, this guy is a real pro." I'd also add that this question can be cutoff with the proper amount of promo pics on your website. Early on, when I had few pictures to show, I heard this fairly frequently. Now that I have thousands of pics and a lot of obviously higher-end events to display, this question almost never comes up.

I think even the wedding planner who was with them was shocked they asked the question. I politely explained to them no I do not bring guests to client's private events out of respect, I offered to get them references if they desired to speak to past clients.
Ron, in Sales we call that an objection. An objection is simply a request for more information. It means you have not quite sold them because they have doubts. It is up to you to find out if this is indeed the one and only objection they have, then answer it so you can do your close.

We do get this asked, and we do exactly what others have said, plus add "on our clients special day, we like to dedicate all our time and energy into serving their needs."......we also add that we have plenty of videos up on our Vimeo page and they are more than welcome to see those as well as speak with anyone listed in our reviews as references.

My question is ( would you like me to invite strangers to your reception?

These prospects only want to see the DJ in action because they don't know enough about you. Let's say you tell them they can come and watch in the doorway for 15 minutes. There's a good chance that during that time they won't see you do anything spectacular anyway.

Just tell them that it wouldn't be right for them to crash someone's wedding and invite them to check out some video footage you may have. But don't answer them as if they're stupid for asking!

My question is would you like me to invite strangers to your reception?

THAT is the response that usually settles the issue for me.
But if it doesn't, I use the responses already mentioned...
plus, "I'd rather not use someone else's special day as a "sales tool" to get more work. That's not why I am there."
