What DJ Software do you use?

I can say this from what I've seen in all the software out there if I wasn't using MM or if the day comes I'm forced to upgrade I would lean toward Rockit. The only reason I have VDJ as a secondayry software was I got it for next to nothing in a deal I made a while back

I know a bunch of folks who use VDJ -- but many are using the home version, which the EULA prohibits against commercial use -- but they do it anyway, cause it's free.

I personally think Stephon did a bad deed in doing that -- he pretty much killed the DJ software industry for the rest of us. Only somebody from France can get away with that --then they put their white flag up.

Yeah, Rick is right. Tons of 'so called professionals' are using the free version of VDJ for paying gigs.
They are also using Free versions of other software too. Makes one wonder if they really have a business because it sure ain't an Investment!

I started with Atomix in 2005. Shortly afterwards I got DJ mixstation from best buy and used it for a few years. This was originally an Atomix product that was discontinued. I was considering Traktor but moved to VDJ pro about 4 years ago.

I was under the impression the home version made you reset your computer every half an hour to continue to use it.

Not that I'm aware of...

You may be confusing VDJ Home with Rockit trial version, which only runs for about a half hour or so. On the bright side. you can purchase our full version for $79. VDJ is $300.

VDJ home will work forever but you can not cue(a must for most dj's) or use a controller with it. You need the PRO or the version that comes with your controller to have these functions.

Hey that's smart business if you can do for free what others are paying for it lowers your cost of operation. Personally I pay for my stuff but sometimes I wonder why

Having tried and used "free" DJ software like Mixxx, there isn't a whole lot of difference in capability between them and paid software, though support is generally lacking. They sound the same and in some cases outperform the paid stuff.

The goal would be to have the features the free apps don't have ...

Well yeah -- how many software has has multi file tag editors, text output to show title and artist along with your logo to external monitors, have 12 decks, audio jukebox to play dinner or ceremony music, while freeing your main decks to ready to go when you start the dance set.

Do they a built in sampler, where you can add unlimited samples, or even full songs? Do they have dual video decks that can play music or videos.

3 different search functions, completely optimized for speed.

When you spend about 15 years writing a piece of software -- you don't give it away. Just like you wouldn't work for free.

LOL. Problem is that the Free Versions are limited in what they can do and best suited for the "Push Plays". Then they come on the Forums wondering why they can't get certain things to work! ;)

I will bet a vast majority of DJs here, including those that talk the talk, use very simple features of whatever DJ app they use. My guess it's probably limited to Play/Pause, some minor cueing, and tempo/pitch massaging. I'm guessing things like looping, filters, etc., are used less than 2-3% of the time by about the same amount of folks.

Some of the Traktor, and VDJ, and Serato features are great for the club DJ, but for those of us that do weddings, parties, sweet 16s, reunions, etc., they are fluff .. nice to have, but used very little.
