I just ordered my new toy from Amazon!

I'm only bringing 2 tops as that's all I need tonight. It's classic soul night and I'll be playing mostly oldies. The reason I said it should take less time because I'm actually bring less stuff that I need to setup with instead of what I used to have to bring. The other way would take about 15-20 minutes to setup. All I have to do now is load up my old back pack with the furman, headphones and extension cord and I'll be ready to go.

Then the reason it'll take you less than 10 minutes is not because of this new piece of equipment (as your statement seemed to claim). If in fact, you left this effects piece at home, it would take even less time.

Your post for reference:

All I know is me buying this effects machine makes my setup tonight even easier ... It should take me less then 10 minutes to set everything up.

Had you said something like this, it probably would have made more sense:

It should take me less then 10 minutes to set everything up because I'm not bringing all of the equipment that I would usually bring.

Regardless, drive on.

;)

I know that sir. My plan is to have it paid off in 6 months or less. Right now I've got to get ready to play at the bar tonight as my friend has some issues right now and can't get his books of CD's so he can play there tonight. He'll probably be there tomorrow.

All I know is me buying this effects machine makes my setup tonight even easier. All I have to do is bring one of the Furman's. Just about everything else I need is in my laptop bag. That's including the effects machine. All I have to do is carry my extension cord, headphones, Furman, laptop bag and my controller in it's own case with the 2 powered tops. It should take me less then 10 minutes to set everything up.

I really hate what has happened to my friend and hope he gets everything straightened out by tomorrow so he can play in the bar. So I'll get to make some money tonight but not the way I would have liked it to happen.

OK! So you are bringing in all of the above for a last minute bar gig. That sounds like a 500.00 pay day especially since you are providing sounds also. But if I guess correctly, your probably doing this gig for less than 150.00. Smart move Mix. At this rate you will pay off that Pioneer piece in 6 bar gigs. I hope your homie does not get his cd's back then you will finally see a profit in your eighth gig.

No it's $150.00 and anyone that plays there must bring their own gear. Not bad at all. Trust me. I may be there again tonight. Now I don't know what bars pay you where you live at but that's what most bars pay DJ's around here. Now if it's a club then they normally pay more.

Like I've said in the past I don't do a bar gig just for the money. I do them because I already don't have another gig and I get more exposure. I did the bar myself and over all things went well. This bar gig happened to be on a Thursday. A day that I didn't have a private gig. So why not go do this bar gig? It's not that far from where I live and I don't need to bring much to get the job done. I had fun and made me some gas money. Not to mention people left there thanking me for the job I did. I like this particular bar because there rarely is an issue with a patron acting up and I don't have to worry about getting paid. The owner gave me my envelope before I finished playing.

Was everyone blown away with the new effects machine? You should do bar gigs all the time because you do not have any other gigs. I mean you did say.... I do them because I already don't have another gig and I get more exposure.... How many gigs do you have this weekend?

I said I'll do a bar gig when I don't have a private one to do that same day. I just came to my friends aid since he couldn't do it last night because of what happened with his vehicle.

Now let's keep it simple. There obviously are those on here that wouldn't have bought this item even if they had say $10,000.00 in the bank. The way I see it is that if we all made a list of the gear we've all bought someone would say I wouldn't have bought that item. I bought it and I'm happy I did. I don't regret the purchase and if I had it to do again I would.

I don't think that anyone is being critical of what you bought or even cares what you bought it's the fact you come here and go on about advertising and business plans and gear that you do need (among other things) and then you go and finance a toy because you're bored.

There is NO piece of gear that is going to build your business you need a business plan effective advertising and legwork at this rate you will be sitting on thousands of dollars worth of gear while the folks you so freely call bottom feeders are out working

I just found out last night that the DJ who plays in the bar on Saturday's won't be there because it's his birthday. So I was asked if I would come in and play? I'm going to do it. Why not? At least that makes 3 Saturday's in a row that I'm working. No this isn't a high end event to do for Saturday night. Yet it puts some money in my pocket.

I already have the speakers there. I left some gear there just in case if my friend couldn't make it for Friday. All I have to do is bring my controller in the case with my laptop bag that has almost everything I need in it. I just bought some cables to properly hook up the effects machine. I was using my partners wires. I just hate they only 5 ft. cables. I'll just have to use other cables for extensions. What it all comes down to is I'm at least keeping myself busy working for right now. So things are picking up some.

The funny part is my friend keeps telling me how people keep asking him if I'm going to be playing there. He swears he has to look out for me taking his job. I told him last night like I always do that he has nothing to fear. I told him that it's not worth it for $150.00 to lose his friendship. Over the years I've known him he has offered me several private gigs that either he can't do because he's already booked or he doesn't feel the gig is right for him.

I can't say shyt. I'm getting ready to buy a new 5k Orbea bicycle and I've already got 3 high end bikes in the garage. So I say, Mix, spend away !!! The economy needs you.

I also remember being a young aspiring DJ back in the 80's and I just had to have that $1000+ Ensoniq Mirage sampling keyboard. I just knew it was going to put me on top of my game. After some practice, I even thought I could use it pretty good. But over time I learned if you manipulate the music too much, it can really tick off the crowd, especially when you screw around with the integrity of a popular song.

So Mix, Have fun with your new toy but I suggest you learn how to use it and not abuse it before you introduce it to a crowd.

Don't worry I know how to use it. I had the Pioneer EFX 500 before. Thanks for the heads up. You said one thing that certainly is true I found out. At one point don't we all have something that we want bad enough that we sacrifice to get what we want. And I'm not just talking about DJ equipment.

I've learned one big thing in life and that is sometimes you've got to just do something for yourself once in a while. It's called being good to yourself every once in a while or why keep on living?

Now my next purchase besides advertising online is to get 2 lights to light up the lighted facade I bought. Right now we really don't have the right lights to use for it. I just might get 1 light next month. I know I want the battery powered one that says it last up to 8 hours. I have to look it back up to see the model it is.

MIX WE ARE ALL STILL WAITING FOR THIS BUSINESS PLAN

Oh thats right you cant do it, the Dog has eaten it, The Cat has had a fit and ripped it up!

oh wait

wait!

wait!

waiting

waiting still.................

I need to say that I had a great time Saturday. I rocked the house that night!!!!!!!!! It went so well that I had several people came up and thanked me for the job I did. One lady even said that I'm a very good DJ. I just knew what to play and when to play it so that the bar was turned over too and not just the dance floor. That was one of my better nights. All had a good time and not too many people came to bug me on what to play next. They just let me do my thing and I like that. I hate when people keep bugging me every 5 minutes of what to play next. Like they know my job better then me.

Now time to look at where I want to advertise online that will be effective.

First rule of DJing don't let anyone else control the floor do it yourself play your dance

Mix I don't come on here and brag about my bookings I may talk about something particular that happened at a booking but for the most part unless something odd happens yo guys would probably never know I was playing so don't think of this as boasting because it's not I'm just hoping it will drive a point home

Since the first of June I have played or produced 32 events with 3 more coming this weekend starting Thursday night. My company has done an additional 17 on top of that plus I've had some rentals and I've worked full time....It's been busy and I've made some good cash.

Last Saturday I did an event about 80 miles away from home it consisted of the ceremony on the front lawn of the resort, cocktails on the deck, and dinner and reception upstairs. We also ran 3 other events on the same day so all my "light" gear was being used. Being I was doing three setups I really wanted to be moving as lightly as possible for the first two. I had everything setup upstairs except one speaker which I used for ceremony and cocktails but here was my problem....

The last couple of days before the event I thought it would be great to have a small mixer to minimize the first two setups and cut the time on the third by having my Soundcraft setup upstairs but as I said everything was in use. I had to go to my local L&M to rent a Lav mic so while I was there I bought a Behringer Xenyx 802. It ran me a whole $70 and made my life easier but I pined for two days before I bought it. Why? Because it wasn't part of the plan. I did justify it in the fact it made things easier and I do have room in my gear budget for misc. purchases but that's because I have a plan

So now I have another backup mixer that I may not need to use for God knows how long but it's there if I need it. My point is Mix that you can justify anything if you think long enough about it but to spend that kind of coin in a non profitable business because you are bored shows the lack of a business plan
