I just ordered my new toy from Amazon!

Mix .. how will this help you get more gigs? It wouldn't appear to be suited for weddings or bar events or backyard shin-digs. It looks more suited to club work, which you don't do.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, but there are many more things that have been suggested to you that the money could have helped with to actually move you in the right direction.

Dude spending that kind of cheddar on that bullsh1t machine was a waste. Read all of the above posts and learn from it. These effects machines went out of style in the late 90's. Serato, Traktor and VDJ all contain effect features.

Yup and it would be a real good idea to pay it in 6 months or you are paying Mafia interest rates

Payment plans aren't even that easy anymore. You need to pay at least the minimum on time during those six months or you'll see that "no interest" part of your payment plan go away very quickly. Good luck on that.

On a side note, if you want a free cure for boredom, go get the Traktor app for your iPad - it's free in the app store this week, and it's mind-blowing.

John with all do respect I already have VDJ and the effects on it aren't that great to me. Who told you that such effects machines went out of style in the 90's? If they went out of style in the 90's then why are they still making them? I'm happy with the purchase. Now I get that some feel it was a waste of money because they just don't use effects at all. I do and like I said the effects on VDJ to me suck! I like to be creative and this helps me a lot. Besides I'm into beat mixing and not just playing one song after another.

They still make plenty of things that went out of style - as long as someone will buy it, they'll continue to make it.

Bullshcrap .. lots of people here have told you that they use effects.

Besides I'm into beat mixing and not just playing one song after another.

Bullshcrap also. Most of us do this .. and it's been a fairly regular thread on here.

Sounds like your digging for excuses to defend your purchase. IMO, you need to go back to square one and actually do your business plan. I think we all agree that said money was wasted and could have been used in so many better ways. You come here asking for help and ideas and fail to commit to anything we offer .. and add on to it that you do stuff like this. And you want us to take you seriously? I can't imagine a client taking you seriously if we can't.

By the way Mix, how is that standalone CD recorder you bought last year working out for you? You should have burned and sold enough CDs to pay for it by now.

It's still working just fine. Now again Like I said I just don't like the effects that much on VDJ. I used them because that's all I had at the time but never really cared for them. I'm happy with the purchase!

Now let me ask these questions to you all. What was the last thing you bought for your business? Was it something that was needed or was it something that you just wanted? For me it was both.

I don't buy anything for the business that the business can't pay for / sell to my customers. Most businesses operate this way. Businesses don't usually buy stuff because they're bored. That takes away directly from the profit .. and goes against the very nature of having a business .. which is to make money.

Businesses invest in what they need to do their job. No more and no less. In our world, some invest in areas where they can make more money, such as lighting or photobooths. These have a direct relation to increased cost and increased revenue. What you bought will get you no more money - there is nothing special you're providing to the customer.

You don't have a business. Everything you buy is because you want it even though it really is not needed to start a business. I can just imagine the people at the last party you did really digging all your new effects. They look like the crowd for it.

For Pete's sake, why are you all piling on the man? It is his money and he can do with it as he pleases. If what he does bothers you all so much, then do not indulge him in conversation. How many times does a businessman spend money that is not for the business but is used as a write off anyway! My Interior Designers buy Artwork from me all the time that they have no intention of selling it. Whether or not Mix has an actual business or hobby is his business, not anyone else's. Why waste the time giving counseling and advice when it is neither appreciated or taken? At least the man may know how to mix his songs, there are a lot who just push play! Just saying. Carry on!

OK I'll bite...

The last purchase I made was an 82" projection screen the one before that was a 2800 lumen projector paid cash for both and as of today I have made just under 1000 profit from it. Did I want it...Yeah sure or I wouldn't have bought it. Was it a toy....Yup sure was I love toys but I also made money from the purchase and will continue to for a long time to come and there's no chance of paying interest on it because I paid cash.

Mix read your Amazon financing agreement close or you might wind up paying double or more for your new "toy" just so you know it's about 26% interest

Buying items on a No Interest Plan is the BEST way to go if you know you can pay it off by the Promotion Expiration Date. My last Crown Amp that I recently bought has a Promotional Expiration date of 6/21/15, that is two years to use someone else's money. The purchase was only $449.00. That is how I have bought the majority of my Gear and lights the past 5 years, even my Laptop. It is called leverage! What I do is divide/spread the total purchase into the amount of months (less one), and I pay at least that amount each month. Hard to beat!

I'm using tapatalk so apparently I can't give thanks so Thanks Canute.

Canute is right leveraging is a great way to go but make sure you know the terms and know you have the ability to pay before the due date or it gets real expensive.

I've financed and paid interest also when it was beneficial or necessary but you don't want to do that all the time

Mix, that's exactly why you should take a look at Traktor - the effects quality and the number of ways you can apply them are phenomenal.

I know that sir. My plan is to have it paid off in 6 months or less. Right now I've got to get ready to play at the bar tonight as my friend has some issues right now and can't get his books of CD's so he can play there tonight. He'll probably be there tomorrow.

All I know is me buying this effects machine makes my setup tonight even easier. All I have to do is bring one of the Furman's. Just about everything else I need is in my laptop bag. That's including the effects machine. All I have to do is carry my extension cord, headphones, Furman, laptop bag and my controller in it's own case with the 2 powered tops. It should take me less then 10 minutes to set everything up.

I really hate what has happened to my friend and hope he gets everything straightened out by tomorrow so he can play in the bar. So I'll get to make some money tonight but not the way I would have liked it to happen.

How does adding equipment make it even easier? (can't wait to hear this one).

The truly sad part is that even if you use it, and providing you were good with it, most likely no one will notice enough to get any future shows to pay for said device.

Can you hear the conversations about it?

"Why did you hire him?"

"Because he is SICK on that effects machine!"

It should take me less then 10 minutes to set everything up.

If it should take less than 10 mins, than with less equipment it should have taken even less time. I'm puzzled by this.

Hey guys, I had 2 speakers .. and now I have 4. The good news is that it should take me 10 mins less to set it all up. Wtf?

I'm only bringing 2 tops as that's all I need tonight. It's classic soul night and I'll be playing mostly oldies. The reason I said it should take less time because I'm actually bring less stuff that I need to setup with instead of what I used to have to bring. The other way would take about 15-20 minutes to setup. All I have to do now is load up my old back pack with the
