I've been using Thumbtack for a while now.... http://www.thumbtack.com/welcome?refer=IO:7btg$46wh1A

Leads cost 5 credits each which if you just buy them in 5 credit increments they cost $8.66 I believe and get cheaper the more you buy at one time. I've had at least two solid leads so far and I am talking with 3 others. No bookings yet but, this site seems to generate at least 2-3 leads a week.

I'm still waiting for one to actually book but, like any type of marketing it all depends on the worm you dangle from the hook. Above is a referral link for anyone who wants to give it a shot, I think with the right lead even if I spend $100 to find that lead it will be worth the effort.

I would much rather spend 20% to get a Sure Fired Booking that pays $1,500.00 ;)

I just tried 3 or 4 leads. Not even a response yet. They don't provide the prospects email so not much use.

am actually in the middle of talking to a Thumbtack bride right now, and we have booked a last minute birthday party from them back in May as well. It can work, but it is also a lot of tire kickers and low ball price shoppers

Several have provided phone numbers so I always follow up with a phone call to get that info, even without that the leads still have value. Lets face even without an email, which they can ignore too, you can message them via Thumbtack. After 48 hours if they haven't viewed your quote you get the credits back, even if they open the quote after 48 hours.... Cost isn't bad and like I said if I land even one it will be worth it. 3 or 4 leads is much to judge by.

Lid like to know where you're finding these "sure things"..... I've had people super excited will confirm immediately today this minute.... Back out and ignore all forms of contact... So show me the sure things and I will buy you a bushel of Indiana corn for you to cook without water. LOL

The sure things come from the Bookings that The Agency gets. By the time they call me its usually a done deal. Once in a while we will do a bid for a Package Deal that may include not only me but a band etc. The point being I don't have to haggle over price with anyone. What you all get from These other sites are either Cold or Lukewarm leads that you still have to follow up on. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that at all. I would rather use my Agent or go visit places in person or even create my own Gigs.

oh for Christi's sake not everyone lives and works in an area where there is such a thing as entertainment agencies, give us all a break on that un-useful bit of information.

Well Rob, don't get mad with me, you did ask and I gave you an answer. Quote: "So show me the sure things and I will buy you ........." Post #5

My town is 2000 people we have no booking agency, if somebody needs any kind of entertainment whether it be a band or a juggler they usually ask me if I know anyone, By the way there are 4 DJ service in this town

On the other hand, not everyone here lives and does business in small cities and rural areas. There are people here from California, New Jersey, New York, Chicago, Boston etc. To them, an Agency can be an option just like Thumbtack or Wedding Wire. A Wedding Planner in a small area is sort of like an Agency if one can buddy up with them and offer a Professional Referral/Commission Fee for gained business. One needs to use their imagination. Just saying.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the going rate in your town? (and no, I'm not wanting to take bottom-feeder shots)

Not mad, just pointing out the fact that an agent, your sure thing, is not a viable marketing avenue for all... What I want to know is where to find the sure thing available in any market... Not just in big cities but also available to us hicks in the sticks.

Here are some ideas. As stated above,
Team Up with people who are the Nucleus (People who will be more exposed to the clients that you are seeking), Bridal & Tuxedo Shops, Cake Suppliers & Bakeries, Venues, Wedding Planners, Churches, Party Rental Supply Places etc.
Use the power of duplication, instead of doing it all alone solicit the help of others like those above to lead you to would be Clients. You must be willing to offer them compensation for their time. This is NOT a "kickback" as some would have you believe. Don't be a Cheap DJ, once that person gets their first payment/Referral fee/Commission, they will then see you as a revenue stream and do their best to send more business your way. You certainly don't know all the people they know.

Does this help?
