My "I'm having mental pause" Question For The Day

I use the avg of 3-4 mins a song. This comes to 45-60 in 3 hours.

You play short songs Tigg. That's not my style (maybe it was back in the 80's).

I'll put on Disco Inferno, hit the head, grab a beer. The age group I occasionally play for these days, is older than I am. They like stuff like the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Canned Heat, Rolling Stones, and the occasional Frank Sinatra.

I don't play for kids any more, and couldn't care less if the dance floor is filled.

I account for an average of 3-4 mins. I'd rather come up with too many than not enough. In all honesty, this is all really just talk. It's not like I know how many will be played in that hour until I get there. The floor takes on a life of it's own.

That's where we differ -- I don't care all that much about the dance floor -- just that people are having fun.

I've never really been one of those guys who insists on keeping a dance floor filled -- if they're at the bar having a drink, or doing a line in the bathroom, or sitting at a table chatting with long lost relatives -- that's good enough for me. As long as I see smiling faces, toe tapping, and maybe some hand drumming -- it's cool.

I think DJ's have become obsessed with keeping the dance floor filled -- there's more to life than that...

If I have a floor, I will do my best to keep it moving, also rotating through genre's and ages. If no one is dancing but having a good time, I will also cater to that. I also catch the hand drumming, toe tapping, smiling, singing along, chair dancing (as I like to call it), etc. I don't live or die by the dance floor alone. For me, it's all about the event and the experience. Maybe the 'floor' takes on a life of its own could have been better phrased as the 'event' takes on a life of its own.

Start am earthquake -- that always helps keep it moving :)

I just keep reading posts on all these DJ boards, about people bragging about keeping the floor filled. Many people don't like to dance. I don't like to dance.

I would bet many are lying, and just trying to boost their own ego...
