Vimeo vs YouTube?

Vimeopro is $200 a year. A basic Vimeo account is free. A Gopro Hero(white) is $200. Unless you need the pro verison of Vimeo, I'd consider it a wash. Vimeo is used more by the serious videographers, youtube is just more known and used by everybody else. If you are using your video for commerial use, you may want to consider a paid hosting service. A paid service will give you more control of how your video may be used. Be sure to read youtube and Vimeo's "terms of service" before signing up.

Gopro Heros come in 3 basic models,(White,Silver,Black) I have a Black which I mostly for mountain biking. It will shoot 720p120 which gives you some excellent slomo. POV cameras are getting better and cheaper everyday so be on the lookout for some new players in the market soon.

Thanks, that answered my question.....I don't really need the GoPro with the new camera I just got, but I figured if Vimeo would be beneficial to me, I would take advantage of this, but seems like YouTube is really the only thing I need.

I like Vimeo better because they don't flag for copyright (or RARELY do) so if you add some music to a video it doesn't get pulled.

They also have new editing options as well to custom your videos.

I use the free version.

So the white hero is only $200. What does the black dude cost? And where is the silver guy from -- Mars?

YouTube works fine (although I hate Google frankly).

Funny, just heard a news story on NPR about this.
Although You Tube now gets on BILLION visits every MONTH...
they are still not making any real money.
So they are considering a pay subscription in the future.

Imagine getting 12 billion hits a year, and going out of business?

Google owns them, I'm sure they'll do something with it to either make it profitable .. or shut it down. Maybe they knew it was overhead when they bought it. I don't think Google has a shortage of money.

They're making tons of money -- they put ads on every video, and people click on the ads -- hence Google makes money for every click.

If they make it subscription, then they lose all that ad revenue. And Google/YouTube model is based on ad revenue.

Here, let's try something:

If I embed it here, you should see an ad at the beginning and end. Also a shout out to JTV (everytime I look at the Pimp Coat, it reminds me of him).

No ad at the beginning or end - instead, like youtube has also done for a longtime - you get that pop up ad that floats over the video.

Yeah .. I don't eat many cookies.

;)

Could be browser / system difference too.

Win7 / FF here.

I use the same here (Win 7 / FF).

You have to clear your cookies often. For example, I go to weather.com quite a bit -- depending on what site I visited, will be what the ads they show.

I was looking at guitars the other day (not that I can afford to buy a new one right now) -- and now all the ads show guitars and amps.

I'm tempted to write a little program, that will clear all cookies on FF, based upon a time schedule.

Originally, they were not not showing ads before the videos.
Which is why they were not making the money they should have been making, based on how many people used it.
I'm not saying they are NOT making ANY money...
it's just not consistent with the amount of viewers they get.

Also, I think the ads work differfently when you are not viewing videos on the actual YouTube site.
We have the same issue with running ads on the streaming versions of our radio stations.
In most cases, we cannot runs the ads on streamingbecause the talent is getting paid on a "per play" basis.
And no one can proper gauge how often an ad is viewed if it is embedded somewhere else.

My cookies clear out very often. I randomly check to ensure too.
