Canute .. If you produce this, do you need to get special liability insurance as well as cough up the $$s to the music licensing folks?

I am at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Styxx is performing tonight. Be on later.

Canute I held that view too before an event in my life gave me a different perspective.

When I had the AV business my business partner and I were making money hand over fist and called the shots. We thought we knew that business inside and out and was prepping for a major expansion. My wife attempted to make me aware of warning signs that we disregarded, At that time we were in business for about 8 years so I blew her off. That all changed about a year or so later when a series of events led to a financial mess leading us to close shop. My business partner and his wife divorced because of the financial hit. My wife and I stuck it out but I lost a lot of her respect back then. Had I listened we all would probably be retired by now...Such is life.

All of that is behind us now but that experience taught me that my wife is my partner in life and business. Even though she isn't all that involved in the DJ game she is a stakeholder and I respect her as such and keep her informed on the goings on. Not necessarily permission but more courtesy and appreciation. Thats how I see it anyways. I am still a shell shocked from that situation and am not as aggressive as I used to be but I know my second chance is around the corner and this time my wife will be and stay a part of the process.
That is a different scenario Theo! This is business that is being refused because some are afraid of what their wives would say/think.

Nope, I do not need to get nothing. I am Producing it not Promoting it! The Venue is actually a Restaurant/Club and is owned by an Attorney. He/his staff is going to handle everything there.

I had a great time at Reliant Stadium this afternoon/evening/night. I was there for the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Every night, after all the Bull Riding, Horse Riding etc it ends with a Concert, a different performer each night. Tonight it was Styxx. I took lots of pics and will post some later or tomorrow. Reliant is EV Country. That sound System Rocks. You could feel that bass even in the restrooms. The HLSR is the Worlds largest and runs for three weeks.

What does Single have to do with this? It is business! I am doing a Production and it is a Theme, no different from a Costume Party at Halloween time. My Ex and I attended many of these before. I may have pics somewhere.

Are you saying that if someone hired you to do a Party and this was the Theme that you would decline? You have to ask Mama's permission to run and operate your business? Maybe I should say Hobby!
So you're charging people to come to a party you're hosting? And I would get beat up if I posted I was doing this. Does the best dressed pimp and hooker win the prize and do they get to go together or will they be able to have separate vacations? Too bad I don't live near you and besides I'm working that day. If I did come I wouldn't pay you Swit to get in. LOL!

You get beat up because you're a moron who would try to charge your personal friends for coming to your own retirement party. Canute is promoting a public event, for pay. Working for clients, for pay is great. You should try it sometime.

I have to shake my head. I wonder why a DJ who says that they have a Business (If they claim they are running it as Sole Proprietor) has to consult with a Spouse before making decisions. I wonder if those Spouses who work outside the home have to consult with said DJs when they have decisions to make at their jobs? It appears to me that its all perception! DJ Business....Ha...more like DJ Hobby with Mama's permission.

Are you so arrogant that you cannot even SEE or UNDERSTAND the reasoning??
Have you never been attached romantically to a woman for more than one night??
No one said we needed permission from our wives to conduct business.
We are simply stating that we have the kind of wives/girlfriends who don't appreciate that kind of thing.
Any more than WE would not appreciate our WIVES going TO a "Pimps and Ho's" party...dressed as a Ho....without us.
It's not about PERMISSION, it's about RESPECT.
Now, If my wife was into that kind of thing, hell...I'd dress her up and bring her along!
The obvious question our wives would ask is....
"If you're gonna throw a party for business, FINE. But why does it have to be THAT kind of party?"

You are correct, I will never ever comprehend how someone who claims they have a business will need to have their wife's approval to do a Themed Gig. I never said this was for Pimp & Hookers so what is the problem? My not being presently married has nothing to do with my DJ Business so don't even go there. It has nothing to do with the issue. Even if I was married, my business is mine on which to decide. I am the owner. Its like someone saying "my wife won't allow me to buy any new gear!" Unless the wife is an active business partner then what the other is doing is maybe a hobby thats why they need permission. If I recall, you once posted your wife has nothing to do with your "business".

Oh yeah, if you WERE married, and your wife was in control of the finances, like MINE is....
She COULD tell you that you cannot buy new gear.
Because it's not as important as the mortgage, or the car payment, or college tuition, or diapers....

Amen, brother.

She COULD tell you that you cannot buy new gear.
Because it's not as important as the mortgage, or the car payment, or college tuition, or diapers.... I purchase Business Tools and invest in Business Equipment not toys.

I have been in business while I was married and never had to ask my wife permission for any business related matter because she was not involved in any of the day to day operations. Again there is a big difference in those who do this as a Hobby and those who do this for a living. If the spouse has trouble in the DJ making a decision to do an event that will bring in money and objects then they are not serious about making money. If they have a problem with their spouse doing an event like this then there is little trust and a lot of insecurity in that relationship.

And again, this very well could be part of why you're no longer married. Instead of continuing to dig this hole that you're in deeper, why not just realize that you could be wrong and there are some dudes here who just might be able to impart a dose of wisdom into your existence? ..............................................Okay, that's what I thought but it was worth a shot anyway.

And again I tell you My DJ Business has nothing to do with why I am not Married. So quit assuming. What wrong is there to be realized? The conversation is about the business opportunity. Answer me this what is so different with this Theme VS a Hawaiian Wear Party with the SAME people going to both? I am waiting on the answer.

Because even though the dress code for a luau might include "scantily clad" females...
a Hawaiian party does not imply sex and prostitutes.
AND THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO A WOMAN WHO IS MARRIED!!!
No one is saying you are WRONG in your thinking (as a single man),
we just cannot believe that you don't understand why happily married people...
are still HAPPILY MARRIED.

Have to disagree. My wife would have no issue with it at all. I have been djing swingers clubs for 9 years now and she has no issues at all. We are happily married for the last 12 years and have no issues what so ever. What may make some people uncomfortable and insecure do not necessarily make others the same way.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA You are so funny! Then y'all get mad when I say "You don't comprehend!" Tell me where I said the Party was for Sex and Prostitutes? Show me! I never said it was a Swingers Party, I never said it was real Pimps and Hookers attending. Just regular folk who happen to like to go to theme parties.

I really don't know what some are getting so up in arms about! I bet these guys don't have any female friends.

I DJs 4 Years in a Swingers Club plus 4 years at a Swingers Resort that was Clothing Optional (Most people were nude anyway). Lots of folks went to both places and they were not even in the Lifestyle. Some were pure nudists. My wife and I both went and sometimes she stayed home. There was never any issue with that at all. But I don't want to confuse the issue like how some are doing. We are talking strictly about a Themed Party here, no Swingers, no Pimps, no Prostitutes.
