My partner is looking to buy this for the business.

Better get your DI hat out. Want me to send a UAV over for security?

Don't need a DJ hat -- he'll be working on the well, and we can shoot down UAVs with a CO2 cartridge, and a piece of pipe. ;)

The only security he would need here, is the gate from keeping Faith from eating him.

I said 'DI' hat - not DJ hat.

It's close enough on the keyboard for me and the gov't. :)

BTW, what's a "DI hat" -- is that what you use to cover your head in your bomb shelter, and it's lined with tin foil...?

Why on earth would you buy ANY equipment .. just to rebuy it again?? Buy right, the first time.
I've had things for a while and then something else has come along that has made my setup time much faster and easier for me to work with. Keep in mind we're talking over 10 years since I've been back and in that time technology keeps changing all the time. I remember many years ago very few DJ's were using a computer to DJ with. Now most DJ's you see today are using computers. It's called changing with the times. Now I've learned that just because the latest thing comes out doesn't mean I've got to have it. Even if I have the money. Right now other then me wanting a few more lights with uplights and a truss to hang the lights from I'm very happy right now.

The thing with doing video is my partners thing he really wants to do. This is his dream. I'm not mad at him. He knows his stuff when it comes to that and I'm following suit.

As for how much we're getting paid for that event in April is $600.00.

This is not an excuse for buying improper equipment. To me, it sounds like you shortchanged yourself once again. For video, that number should have gone up - or the client doesn't get that service. If you're planning to invest in equipment, the only way you will recoup those monies is by customers wanting your service - otherwise its wasted money - and at that point, this is a hobby and not a business.

I don't buy anything until I have thoroughly researched what it is that I want, what it will take to setup, learn and use, my target audience, useful life of the equipment, etc. This is a foolish idea to buy equipment that you will only end up replacing rather quickly - the kicker is that you already know you will. I have CD players that are 20+ years old and work just as good today as they did back then. Do I use them anymore - hardly, but the point is that I invested wisely and bought a quality product that I have reused over and over for decades.

Drill Instructor? Y'er gonna need combat training in order to get him in shape.

Sorry, I missed the connotation -- must be that Twisted Tea I've been drinking today. Sometimes you need that, and a little rum, after a 7.62 goes through yer belly. The other dude didn't fare as well.

BTW, leeches do in fact work to replenish your blood -- getting them off is the hard part.

Playin' Call Of Duty again, huh?

;)

Nah, I try to put that past behind me. It's more fun hanging at the pool with half naked chicks.

If you ever decide to play the real game, with real bullets -- I suggest you take a u-turn if possible, or at least take as many of the other side with you, when you exit this planet.

OK since it was said to buy something else instead for screens give me your suggestions. I mean size and model please. Also don't go crazy with one that is 1,500.00 either.

Been there, done that - got the t-shirt and the coffee cup.

Mix - no one can tell you what to get - especially if you put a limit on what it is to tell you. Taking our suggestions means your buying what WE want and what WE use. This has a high chance that this is not what Mix likes, will use nor wants. I suggest that you do your research - and DO NOT invest in something that you will not be using frequently nor return the monies you spent.

Also remember, it takes money to make money.

You're not just buying a screen - you're also going to have to buy everything that you need to support those screens - stands, trusses, clamps, legally purchased and obtained videos, etc. You also have additional power and system requirements. Insurance, storage, contract update costs, etc. $1500 is probably a drop in the bucket to what you will need to ramp up. Let's also add in who will move, setup and tear down all this crap (because it can't be you).

It's going to cost you several thousand(s) just to get a competent, legal video library.

You can pick up a front/rear projector with screen for about $700 bucks. Why bother with TVs, mounting stands, and all that BS.

Even IF you decided to go with a projector, you still have significant other costs in there - to include the video library.

Where were you at?

I was in central America back then (late 70's, early 80's), not Mil, but attached to a mil unit as a contractor. I did some work during Desert Storm as well, but it was all comm based stuff -- we floated the balloons with the modems, so we could get line of sight.

Mike, you must have been babied all your life. People have patterns that determine their profile. If those phrases are deemed disrespectful by you then I am not really surprised. I shouldn't be! I am making this judgement from the patterns you display here on certain issues and the way you answer and approach them. You will be a follower not a leader of a pack. Your quest is to bend over and please others with the fear of having someone go against you.

No, I was loved, cared for, and RESPECTED all my life.
If that makes me weak, so be it.
But I believe I can accomplish more with INSPIRATION than with PERSPIRATION.
I don't need people to fear me to get respect...I earn it with my actions.

And by the way, "it's my quest to bend over"???????
Way to go on avoiding the issue by attacking the messenger.
You do that quite often, so I must be hitting a nerve.
