Since this is around income tax time and I should be getting a refund again this year I was considering getting another laptop to make the one I have now my backup laptop. The one I have is working good now but just want to see about getting another one to make sure all goes well when at a gig. The one I have now is over 2 years old which is when I became a computer DJ which I love being.

Help me out please. I'm considering getting another one. I want one that has back lights for the computer keys to make it easy to read the keyboard in very low to dark light. I'm not sure what else to look for besides probably a dual core processor, 4 gigs of memory and if possible an i3 processor. I was thinking of looking to spend around $600.00. Might go as high as $700.00 and that is my absolute limit. OK fire away. I know some of you will have a snide remark towards me but this time it's completely OK. have fun everyone.

If you're are looking for a performing machine, get an i5, not an i3. 8Gb of memory (not much price difference to 4Gb) and at least a 500 Gb hard drive.

Here's a Lenovo i5 with those specs at $599: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...1C9:00009409:&cid=us|cse|df|shopping|21829UU&

a Dell with close specs (only 6Gb RAM) at $499: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...50055-552179-VU95U05Rb0JDeHNBQUJpUUdWb0FBQUFX

Might be able to upgrade to an i7 for the difference. Don't know if they have back-lit keyboards.

Check this out...http://www.costco.com/HP-dv6t-Select-Laptop,-Intel®-Core™-i5-3210M-2.5GHz.product.100021953.html

The keyboard is backlit though not stated in the specs. I reviewed this model a couple of months back while shopping to replace a 1 year old Acer that has 2 bad USB ports that failed 1 year after warranty period.

I ended up with the HP Envy i7 version that came with 16g ram and 1g dedicated Nvidia card for 850. I like the HP. Windows 8 hasnt been too much of a hassle and plays well with all of my software (ableton, itch, karaoki & traktor).

Here is a Dell with similar specs to the HP i5. Im not sure if it has a backlit keyboard though. http://www.costco.com/Dell-Inspiron-15R-Laptop,-Intel®-Core™-i7-3632QM-2.2GHz.product.100010241.html

This is why I Special/Custom Order My laptops. I think the track Record I have is excellent. First one Special Ordered an Inspiron from Dell in 2006 is still running 7 years later (To the date/Month). Thats hard to beat! Back then, friends told me I was crazy to pay $1,500.00 . One of those same friends is now on his fourth Laptop, all of them purchased off the shelf. Then again, that is just my opinion, what the Hell Do I know, eh! I am just a DJ.

Canute the one I have right now is still working and I like it. It normally will act up when I do something wrong. My issue is that I only have one laptop. I know I need another. When I bought the one I have I believe I payed $500.00 or just a little bit over that. It's an HP G62225 DX. I'll be using it this Friday.

From a Business vantage Point, if I were you, I would not spend another penny. You don't have the Gigs or the Revenue from whatever Gigs you do have, to substantiate additional Capital expenses. Spend the money advertising or whatever to bring you more Gigs first, is what I would recommend.

The issue is many newer programs have added more graphical interfaces and features like video playing. Even if you don't need it, the base speed requirements keep going up.

Not sure where you're going with this but I have an 'off the shelf' Sony Vaio from 2004 and it's still rockin'. My point is simple - if you're going to invest, invest wisely. Research it before you buy it. Know what you want and accept no less.

I have a change of heart now. I really need to take some money and get my desk top fixed. One of the guys that's a partner of ours is great at fixing computers and he will fix mine. The mother board is going on it. Then get more insurance for the business and pay my dues for the association. Lastly look at getting paid advertising along with hopefully getting more stuff added to our website.

Steve Cie is the one that built the website and has had a tough time due to Sandy last year. His house substained $70,000 worth of damage. So I'm just waiting patiently on when he is able to make changes to the site such as finally adding the option for people to be able to pay with a cc. Such things are more practical then buying a new laptop. If I did get one I can do what my partner did and that is get a used laptop from EZ Converter in Saddle Brook, NJ. They buy and sell used items. He's gotten some laptops from them and all have worked fine. I can get one from them for around $300.00-$350.00. Depending on how you negotiate with them and they are legit.

Mix,

Motherboards either stop functioning in one shot, or they continue to function. I'm not sure exactly what issues you are having, but more than likely it's related to your hard drive(s).

Don't worry his partner who knows nothing about computers will fix it.

Mix why are you putting all this money out for insurance and advertising ect. Do you understand the meaning of partnership?
