I got married in 87, and the venue charged me like $5k, add in the DJ, photo and video dudes, open bar, flowers and all that crap, and it came out to like 10 grand total.

Now, that would probably be 20-30 grand easily.

I hired a DJ for my Nephews wedding two years ago, and it was basically about a thousand -- and I didn't get to go, but I paid the tab.


So, my point is -- you are working in an area that is not productive, and you feel unsafe. I suggest you either move elsewhere, or get rid of your gangster partners, and find some decent venues to work at...

What gave you the ideal my partners are gangsters? Now did you clearly read what I said. I said that I'm careful about where I go do events and who it's for. I never said that we go to such crazy places. Once I find out it's something I don't feel comfortable with if that is the case, I let them look else where.

Now when I first got back into DJing and desperate to make a name for myself I would take such risk. Not today! The reason I mentioned the price quote thing is because I already know certain people I don't care to work for that if we give them a high price, they won't want to pay it. You could thrown in a big light show with uplighting and 2 plasma screens and they still won't spend $600.00 which is fine with me.

Now to tell you a short version of a situation that did happen once that I mentioned before. Before we became partners I helped him with getting his equipment to a gig. It was a sweet 16 in one of those small community rooms. The guys that she invited to the party, most of them were wearing baggy pants, white tees and the works. Just plain ghetto. To make it short the party ended early because while I was in the bathroom someone started shooting outside. So I'm in the bathroom on my cell phone calling for the police. I had to go out the front door to get to the van to drive it to the back door so we could get us and the gear the hell out of there. The sad part is one of the kids said what was the problem, they were only shooting in the air? How's about the problem was a person having a gun at a sweet 16 party.

So after that I learned to be careful about where I do events and for who. He was doing the father a favor since they grew up together and that is what happened. And just so you know I've never done another private event that such a thing has ever happened again. Oh and by the way the girl was ghetto herself. She was looking for the DJ to play gangsta rap so the people she invited to the party wouldn't leave.
