I hear what you said. I don't doubt that such things haven't happened to you. Around here things might be different from where you live. Or just maybe either you got lucky or just were picky what bar/club you played at.
Around here there is a lot of gang activity with those getting caught up selling drugs. What I've personally seen happen even if I wasn't the DJ playing in a place is this. Some places don't care who they let in a place just so long as they make money. They will let in the gang bangers because they are spending money and that will lead to trouble. Then here comes the young Hoochie mamas chasing after the gang bangers money. What I have witnessed is places getting closed for goood because the police get tired of having to keep coming back to the same old place all the time. They then set the owner up with a big fine that they know they won't or can't pay. Thus the place is closed for good.
I can tell you a sad story about a party we were doing in a bar. I had my 50th birthday party in this bar. The party turned out great. After that they loved what we did so much they had us come back a few more times. The last time we were there was a mess. The barmaid and a friend of hers setup a party because she was bored and just needed some people in the place. We're rocking the party and the crowd there was loving us. The bar was making lots of money untill the owner messed things up.
The crowd that was in the back of the bar when we first got started was a mature adult crowd. The owner decided that the party was going well and got greedy. She said to let the baggy pants people come back there to the party. Once the nice people saw that you know what they did. They got up and left. So that left us with a bunch of misfits that we really didn't want to play for.
The owner cost her self money big time in 2 ways. She chased away the people that were spending money and having a great time to have us play for the zoo people. Now she chased those people away and lost the money they were spending. She could have had those same people come back for another party there but that got killed because of her stupidity. Sad but true story and that was the last time we ever played in that bar. I wouldn't go back there no matter how much they wanted to pay.
That's just an example of one incident. Just goes to show you how some owners are not smart enough to chase after smart money instead of fast money. Jimmy your life may not be all that important to you just so you can say you made some money. But my life is more important then any amount of money. I have another story I could tell tat is really wild where someone was trying to get me to play in a bar that never happened but I'll save that for later.
