I'm meeting in a bit with this weekend's client. The bride is from Peru and said she wants a portion (maybe 20%) latina music that her and her friends can dance to. I've got a small list of stuff that I've had in request from guests over the past few years but would appreciate it if any of you guys could share some titles that work, dance-wise.

Thanks in advance.

I'm with Randy... but, take a look at my Arce Gig log.... lots of good stuff in that... I found that the more bass a song had the more they liked it... on both sides of the room.

They absolutely loved the songs by Pitbull that were in spanish as well as the song Pause by Pitbull. Others they favored were Cumbia's

yeah thats it play any latin music why bother centralizing it to Peruvian favorite bachata, merengue, salsa etc.
So I dont have to type a book check this out(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Peru) Peruvian music isnt just latin or hispanic in fact not really the cultures music style at all read some of this you might want some of the Peruvian Rock it all depends on the region of Peru they are from. Some really nice music for dinner or cocktails might be the pan pipes and flutes. These might be especially nice for a ceremony offering. Just because Peru is in South America doesnt mean Bachata or Merengue or anything unless you know the region and the Peruvian music of choice. Havent we had this chat before?

Cumbia music is mostly Mexican not Peruvian. You will more likely get away playing Salsa and Samba.

Thanks guys. Looks like it's study time. The bride let me know that there are fewer latinos showing up than she originally thought. She said "Just play one every now and then." She's also forwarding a list of material she likes. Thanks for the great info in this thread. You guys rock.

Nope Cumbia is to Colombia, Kumbia is to Mexico. ;-) Don't confuse the two. Two different styles.
Actually almost each Latin American Country has its own style of Cumbia. There is also a variation called Techno Cumbia from Mexico. I am only spelling it the way they do here! BTW we have a lot of each down here, Colombians, Mexicans, Hondurans, Salvadorians,Brazilians,

This is old but it sure does fill the dance floor!

Techno Cumbia:

Here Ya Go Esta Musica De Colombia. Notice the style.

True Cumbia is used in other countries but keep in mind that Colombian Cumbia is totally different from Mexican. It is important to understand the difference from both. Different instruments and style used from one to another. If a client just asks for Cumbia it is important to know where are they from. Colombia or Mexico. If you play at a Colombian party Mexican Kumbia you will get all sorts of looks and the same goes for Mexican.

If I played ANY form of Cumbia/Kumbia around here I'd get some funny looks .. so I guess it's all relative.
