Dub Step Music

The original version of Pumped up kicks is a great track with a kick ass beat. But the dub step version sounds like an old 80's video game having a stroke. It just sucks..

When I hear the term dub step.. I think reggae related.. Dub reggae is more my speed. I can even vibe to ska.

I agree with this...I only came to know dub step as it is in the US. I now know that reggae and UK related is totally different...good point.
 
IMO - Dub step sounds like they've taken a song an slowed it down by 50%, the effect sound very DJ 101ish as well.

No, John you're not old. So far, most of the Dub Step that I've heard sounds like grotesque body noises repeated over and over. Definitely not my cup of tea and I'm guessing that it will be a hit in your "sophisticated" big cities, but out here in the corn belt that crap will clear a dance floor faster than playing Wayne Newton. ;)

I'm with you Kirby not a big fan here either but in the next year you are going to see it more and more in mainstream music. Ellie Goulding - Lights is a good example and even Flo Ridas Good feeling has a bit of dubstep sound to it. Any success breads more of a genre just look at all the sub genres of metal in the 80s and 90s this will be the same

Yup, I'm afraid you're right. It will probably get overused like "autotune" and the "one-note guitar solo.' ;)

lol...dub step has it 15 mins of play right now. I just wish if someone would speed up the clock to make it dissapear already.
 
I actually love throwing a GOOD dubstep track into my mixing. It keeps things fresh, and not so same-old-same-old. I have a couple good mixes of things like "Black & Yellow" and "Til The World Ends", but I have to say that literally 95% of dubstep I have heard is total crap. No talent producers just oscillating basslines over a crap beat. It's nuts.
 
its definitely a needle in the haystack situation and at times very time consuming to weed through the chaff. I mostly do more mainstream gigs so the maistream dub remixes etc tend to be all thats needed to satisfy the masses or minimalistic needs. Its here tho and relevant I will use it in order to keep my guns loaded.

Yup I have a bride asking for this song for the Bridal Party intros.... and she's asked for an instrumental version of Mr Saxobeat for their Ceremony Recessional song..... o_O
 
Hey thanks for this thread The Dubstep Genre I am rather weak so this can help out many DJs looking for a few hits. Who saw Ultra Fest in Miami? Look it up on Youtube and see Skrillex performance, the guy was spinning from a freakin' spaceship! LOL........
 
For all the haters...when you look at the repeating bass lines over a bland beat it sure does lend all the criticism Rap had when it came out. Now look...

I'm so glad kids are finally letting go of hip hop at the dances in the midwest. Its just not used as much in my sets as it was say 6 years ago.

For school dances we pound the 120 BPM poppy stuff then slow em down with either Country or Dub Step. What a shock to the senses!

Dub Step may not be around long but it sure does brighten the sets. I usually play half of the song though then beatmatch into some hip hop to get out of it. Then back to the faster tempo....

Not to mention how aggressive and fun lighting can be with it! I jam out on my light board with all the little noises etc....pretty cool. I need to take some video some time....
 
Jeremiah, I'm not a hater but not a fan either. So far I've not found very much in this genre that has caught & pleased my ears.

I can see where it would be a hit with younger kids, just for the fact that it "cheeses their parents off." ;)
