I have always believed in ordering Custom Built/Special Order Machines for what I want it to do. All my Machines both Laptops and Desktops have always been Special Ordered/Custom Built. My first Gig Laptop was bought in Jan 2006 and still operates. It runs my Traktor DJ Software and my Karaoke Software. I bought a new one only to have HDMI direct output Capability.

The specs are very good .. I don't have any background on ASUS as far as reliability, but I believe Rick has some.

And I've never had issues with "off the rack" .. a little nip an tuck removing a few programs and good to go ...

Like anyone else, ASUS makes some crappy stuff and some good stuff. For awhile, ASUS was only found in homegrown machines. I have an ASUS P3B with an Intel P3 coppermine still running, no problems - circa late 90's. I also have an ASUS that's about 2 years old with no problems.

Rule #1 is in effect.

I have a couple ASUS machines -- both work fine. As Steve mentioned, you just trash the stuff they put on there. I have an ACER, which is a i5, which is actually somewhat slower the Core 2 Duo in the ASUS. Both have 72000 RPM drives, and the same amount of memory.

I don't bother with over 4 GB of memory -- it's worthless IMHO. Unless you have a program compiled specifically for a 64 bit system, that memory becomes worthless. Windows runs a bit faster, but not enough to pay extra.

Off the rack is fine, as long as you know what yer doing. ;)

I've been using off the shelf laptops for djing since 2001. Never had an issue except for one instance when I bought a really cheap computer and got what I paid for.

I'm getting old, and they way my body is...
it doesn't take much for me to beat my own ass....
or beat the CRAP out of it, either.

(and yes, it still DOES work fine)
