Hi guys my main clients are aimed at 13 year olds. Because they normally have there first disco at this age and invite the whole grade. My problem is I don't always play the rite music. So if it's not to much please,

Leave a comment of what songs or artist you as a 13 year old like to here at a party. Or any DJs that DJ some parties for this age that know what songs or artists they like. Such as Ke$ha, LMFAO ect thanks very much everyone.

You're from South Africa. Personally, I wouldn't begin to guess what kids are listening to there. Check the websites for your local radio stations or the Billboard charts. As a teen yourself, if you are setting out to DJ for teens, shouldn't you already know the answer? How will listing a bunch of songs/artists here really help you connect to your audience?

.

Well like I've noticed as soon as you get into high school the music begins to change to people like afrojack ect. Getting into music from tomorrowland and that sort of stuff, I have only recently started to DJ so I didn't keep much music from when I was 12/13. But I guess your rite top charts should work thanks.

Yeah it's kinda hard to list what works in the states as to what is working in S. Africa! As a matter of fact it would be interesting to see what is working where you are. I have performed like eight S. African wedding receptions over here because Florida is a world destination. I learned before a celebration South Africans give food and wine to your loved ones who have passed on, then the party begins!!!!

Well my parents are originally from Ireland and I got cousins in england and in Boston USA ect, only difference is songs come out on our top charts a little later than they come out over there. So I'm not like black African culture or Afrikaans. Just Irish. But we all mix. Haha, also I don't know much about weddings and that. Just more teen discos.

BOS, Play the hits ! Most people want to hear music they know. Don't worry about tomarrowland. Make sure you are on the same page with the sponsor of your disco dance about the music your playing, and keep it clean. Kids like alot of THUMP so buy quaility gear the first time so you won't have to just purchase something again shortly later. And don't forget to have fun !

The site is decent. Perhaps you may want to proofread your words for misspelling. Sure looks to me that you are hitting your prime market of the younger folks. Many startup DJ's come here and want us all to hold their hands and tell them how to DJ....you on the other hand appear to have a good start already.

Amazing though, you are in South Africa and I am in the state on Massachusetts in the USA.....we are more than half a world apart yet share a common love of music.

This forum is down-to-earth and real. Welcome, and I hope you stick around.

Best,

Paul

Ask!

If you were hired, then find the age group you are playing for, and interview. Ask them what they like and what they "don't" like. Its that easy, its called Research.

I DJ for High Schools all the time. I have a job in a month. I met with their Teachers at their School. Then met one of the students that is organizing the Dance. I asked to speak with at least 5 of her classmates.
I sat with them, and went over what songs they would like for a Dance, and what songs I shouldn't play. It's a small School, but they love Dubstep. One girl requested Justin Bieber's song, Girlfriend. Play what they want.

Also, get a Notebook and let them know, to come up and write down request.

Good luck.

Research ... We don't need no stinkin' research ... (insert cowboy hatted mexican emoticon)
