I broke down and posted an ad on Craigslist

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
Looks fine to me Sparkieg, I place ads on CL also and have no shame. I've booked more shows than I can count from it.

Nice ad. We tried CL for several months last year, but nothing came out of it and the other DJs that were using it started to fight between themselves and openly accusing each other of flagging their posts and we just decided we didn't even want to be associated with those types.

no need to be sad.
CL is just another branch of the social media tree.
I'm sure any bride searching on CriagsList doesn't think she'll only find cheap amateurs.
to the clients, it's just a cyber replacement for the Yellow Pages.

I would not use the same business name for Ads placed on CL. It may diminish the stature of your Main site especially if you are going to offer lower prices on CL.

Why would you offer lower prices, just because you're advertising on Craigslist? From experience, I can tell you I pitch against guys offering DJ service for $400, $350, $300, $250......even $150. I don't put prices in my CL. I put eye-candy and list out benefits. The girls may come there looking for a deal but once they catch site of something pretty they're hooked and once they've clicked on my link......well, they start beating daddy up to spring for some mo money. You can't just throw something on CL and expect them to beat your door down. You've got to think through the approach, post an ad, gauge response, tweak, post, rinse and repeat. CL produces a solid number of leads, not to mention the links in the ads do impact your search engine rankings.

I don't do packages, so my prices are never listed anyway. On Craigslist there will be many scenarios, one may be able to give a lower price but not have to use Lighting.

I do the same as Rick. My prices are the same. Leads from C/L have turned into gigs. I suffer from some flagging from the jealous types. I post pricing on my main website page, so the client can make a decision about budget prior to hitting the reply button.

Your honesty is great to see in placing this thread.

No harm with a man trying to take care of his family and doing what he has to do.

I have always believed that money figures that DJ charge and get should never be discussed on a chat board.

P.S. I was one of the TOP posters on that other site for a day or two....LOL

What truly is an affordable dj or a what does it mean when a DJ says our prices are affordable? I see this a lot. Nice ad by the way! All i will say is this. What one person my perceive to be an affordable price another might say that's too much for them to spend. Lastly just becuse you advertise on CL doesn't mean that you have to be a cheap DJ whatever that is.

You can have an ad somewhere else and still be a cheap DJ.

Here in Toronto the place to advertise free is Kijiji. It is actually a free or paid service where paying gets you a highlighted ad that sits on top of your category for a week.

Booked a couple of weddings and a bar gig so gar this year from this ad.

I just don't get the stigma of free advertising. Craigslist has over 49.4 million unique monthly visits in the United States alone are you willing to give up that market?

Everyone should be on Facebook, Kijiji, wedj, Party Pros, Craigslist, and anywhere else they can if for no other reason than SEO.

Just because you pay for it dosen't make it good and judt because it's free doesn't make it bad

I do CL for nothing more than SEO/Google page placement. If I get a gig from it, all the better.

The idea of free marketing such as Craigslist isn't bad at all, but it's who you get lumped in with. Like I mentioned in our area the DJs on Craigslist are flagging each other's posts, knocking each other every chance they get. No matter what the free SEO stuff that comes with it, it's just not worth being on there. After all, even as businesses, we're judged by the company we keep.

The same thing happens here Mac but I write ads to distinguish myself from the others and just keep nice and quiet. Craigslist isn't popular here Kijiji is and it's pretty much the same thing.

Honestly I haven't taken much from there, maybe a half dozen or so over 2 years, and I actually haven't advertised there in a while as my schedule is as full as I want it to be right now. In the next few weeks I'll design another ad to generate bookings for the 2013 season
