New Crown Amps

I would love to have one (or 2 or 3) but I have very few venues that support a 30 amp circuit. I'm lucky to get 2 separate 20 amps circuits in most places. 
Once you go Crown at this level you can't look back. These are lifetime purchases. I still have my Macro-Tech 2402's and 5002's, as well as a pair of K2's. All still work like day one.

I'm sold on QSC ... I have 3 PLX2 amps (3602,3102,2502) and have run all 3 (biamped tops + subs) without drawing over 8 amps of current (I use a Monster 3600 with an ammeter/voltmeter) covering a town green with close to 500 people .. These amps SIP power. The Crowns are nice .. as are PowerSoft, Lab.Gruppen, etc, but unless you are touring, they're really overkill.
I have used Crown practically the entire time I've been performing. Currently, I run a Crown XTI-2000 and love it.
Agree! I have a pair of PLX 3402's. They are power sippers however lack the iron-fisted control of the Crowns on woofers. I find my big JBL 18's like the negative feedback of the big Crowns.....as long as the power is adequate.

XTi and XLS are great for the market we hit. I would love an iTech .. just hard to justify without the need to drive multiple double-18s on an ongoing basis.

LOL how true. The new ones are lighter. I have I-Techs, a 4000 and an 8000. MUCH easier on the back! When I take out the MA5002's, my back twitches before I get to the skb cases.......ouch!

I'm sorta curious why a DJ would need say 2,000 watts per side, and whether those numbers are even close to real...?
I've been in this business a long time, and most gigs I did with 150 watts per side (outdoors I bi-amped, with another 60 per side on top). You can easily handle a couple hundred people with that, without breaking a sweat.
Maybe it's just a gear thing for some folks, but just get good, efficient speakers -- and you can rock the world without 60 million watts of power...

I don't know Jacob -- will 80 get you where yer going, in a decent fashion...?
I have more in my car, but I never use it. I think the key, is in the efficiency of the system as a whole, and the ability to tweak it properly, and utilize it properly.
Hell, I could get myself thrown out of this complex in a heartbeat (with a few hundred complaints) if I even put my amp over 4 (that's my tube amp, 85 watts per side). If I use the solid state, I'd probably have to go up to 6 (that's the Onkyo -- 100 watts per side).
IMHO, the speakers are far more important than the amps. If you have efficient speakers, and good cabling, you don't need thousands of watts...
With the amps it clarity and definition at higher volumes. With cars the least powerful one I have has 210HP it get's me there but I need more (A lot more to have fun and enjoy them at ludicrous speed )

For home use those #'s may work Ricky. But when you are pushing tops rated at 500 rms for 5 to 6 hours you will need an amp that can provide that power without busting a sweat. At every event we won't go full throttle but it's nice to know the power is there if needed.

"Just in case it's ever needed." is how I'd answer that one. While I couldn't justify the cost or weight of these Crowns, I've been using IPR3000s that push 850 per side at 4 ohms. As soon as the new IPR7500s are out I plan to get at least one. Those push 2250 watts per side at 4 ohms and 1250 at 8 ohms. It'll be nice to have the extra headroom for a normal setup but it'd also be nice to have the option to carry only a single 18 sub (8 ohm) and not feel like I'm overdriving the amp.

I'm not talking home use. My 150 watts per side, served me well for a couple decades. I never wanted to thump people out of the room, I wanted to keep them in there.
How effectively you can run your show, is far more important than sheer power. If you just want sheer power for the bragging rights, go for it. I don't need it. The thump is nice for clubs, but doesn't work all that well for weddings, corporate, etc...
I admit, I used efficient Peaveys, which were also bi-ampable. Inside, even in large rooms, I never needed it -- they put out a lot of sound. I left them in NY -- wonder if my brother threw them out... :bzno:
