I mentioned this program earlier last year. I finally purchased it. Looks like it's going to do everything I need and it can be installed on multiple machines.
The program is from the UK, but simply converts to US dollars from euro. A fully functional trial is available is you want to check it out.

It stores all your venues and clients and comes with sample templates for MS Word. However, it's pretty easy to just make your own custom contracts and forms in MS Word. Since the data gets put in like a form letter, you can apply the text fields to any number of things. Once again, the trial is fully functional if you want to play around with it.

The program is from the UK, so the language is more Euro style (IE: Checks = Cheques, etc.) This is easily changed when modifying or creating the templates.

i know everyone pushes cloud this and online that, but i like simple - and this looks simple.

now if someone made tablet/pad version of said app...

only thing is i will need to start 'from this day forward' until i have a way of importing the mess i have now (old paradox for dos).

wonder if this can assist w/ sending anniversary notes?

Just emailed the dude. Asked if the following is possible...

- add a field in venue for pictures (no more than 8 maybe)
- add extra vendors and tie them w/ the client and event (catering/florist/etc)
- event data mainly for wedding events and make search able (like all 1st dances in 2010)
- add custom reports in case one wants to recognize milestones (wedding anniversary)
- ability to import or at least manually add via import (I know this would be hard) data from another source to catch up. In other words, is the MDB unlocked?

These additions would make a great selling point to us wedding DJs and possible source if info during bride consultations. Who worked where and setup styles.

Got an email back. It is what it is. So either I use as is or write myself or find some database guru.

DJ Booking is a great package but might want to consider a cloud-based system such as DJ Event Planner for example. It's a great product, US-based, large user base and is well-rounded with lots of features.

Another alternative is a new UK-based system that I am heavily involved with in terms of development is Deckbooks. Not much to see on the website at the minute but development is strong.

Another alternative if you want something you can install on your machine is Elm Software's iDo Wedding & Event Professional Edition - this is fantastic software and looks pretty cool, very easy on the eye.

Hope this helps.

I don't see any advantage to a PC base system. As long as the information is backed up, I would rather be able to access the information from any computer, any phone, any tablet.

Anyone not using cloud based, or not wanting to use cloud based, mind sharing why?

I guess I am old school....I use a big desk calendar. Has enough room for all my rough notes. Then I have a file cabinet that holds all the detailed information. I do use the calendar in my phone, but it just has the name and the date that's booked. Calendars don't crash. I don't have to wait for hours or days to get it up and running again to restore my backup. My prices and all that good stuff are in my head.... If that crashes...I probably won't care too much about the other stuff any more.....

@Scott Hanna -- it came down to economics for myself. I simply didn't have a need to invest in planning tools. To me, it's just another cost of overhead that I eliminated by creating the same information in other applications; ie, pdf, excel, word.

I'm like @badblood70 -- I have all my contracts and a calendar in a folder, sitting beside my computer. All my inquiries that come thru the website, collect all the relevant info via an email-based contact form. I keep all conversations tied to the original email, so the client and I can quickly see our conversation(s).

Fast forward to 2012 -- late 2011 I finally entered into the smartphone revolution. ;)

With my iPhone, I'm answering emails anywhere and staying even more connected with my clients and can reply very quickly to their emails or potential inquiries. I'm having to do alot of things on the small screen using my created forms, that I believe I could do much more easily if I had a planning tool system. I just haven't taken the time to check out the different software options more in depth and see if one would fit my needs. It's on my to-do-list one of these days.

I wasn't looking for a debate, but here's my "why?"..

I'm not opposed to the idea myself, but I am not paying monthly for it. FTP and external drives back up everything. I bring both digital and hard copies to events. I don't use a smart phone or have a need to access my records outside the house. In fact, I don't conduct business on the fly. As long as I am able to organize information and generate documents/reports, I'm fine.

I shared the software for those that feel the same way. Take it or leave it.

I use Gigbuilder. I get referrals from WeDJ and Gigbuilder is free with Gold level. If I could inexpensively make a form fillable PDF file that could be saved by the client, I'd use that. Since I do mainly Weddings and todays modern couple is pretty mobile, the online also comes in handy for them to use from any device.

I don't use it to it's full potential because I'm not enough of a computer geek to really figure out how the whole darn thing works.

I wasn't looking for a debate either...just looking to understand. I really didn't see the advantages. Sounds like you feel not paying an on going fee is the advantage you've found. I can see that. No problem. We all conduct business differently. Personally, I conduct business outside of my office more often than inside. I'm not sure if that is what you are referring to as "on the fly". I find being able to access and enter information, send agreements, take and enter payments from my ipad or smartphone invaluable.

For me, paying a hundred dollars or so a year to save me hundreds of hours of work I no longer need to do when I get back home is the best investment I've ever made. I hope they never figure out that I'd pay a lot more for it.

So my way works for me and your way works for you.

Well, Hank, how is it working out for ya? I am still using Paradox 4.5 (DOS) that I wrote in 1991. That Elm looks cool but very much overkill for us DJs - unless we value add a wedding planner. :)

Well, it's not as good as the previous program I was using (DJ Calendar). I stopped using it due to the fact that you could not install it on multiple machines with paying $100 for each additional licence. However, it does what I wanted. Tech savvy users may realize that it's basically a "front end" to MS Word. It basically generates forms and stores simple data. There's lot's of room for tweaks and growth, but the author is very open to suggestions and quick to reply to suggestions/support issues.

For a low, one time purchase price of $80, it's a handy and useful tool for a simple format DJ service.

i dont use online software because if the internets down your screwed, and not every single client wants to get spammed from every vendor

so I dont use it - I am old school and will be for sometime!!
