Wondering if any of you folks are using Amazon prime yet? Most specifically, is performance acceptable and how does their selection rate against Netflix? Netflix seems really weak on getting new material in.

I don't use Prime but a friend does and he also has Netflix. He says the main benefit to Prime right now is if you're a frequent Amazon customer and can benefit from the free shipping. The streaming content isn't anywhere near what Netflix offers yet.

Well, so are ALL the services because if they had tons of new content, it would kill video stores ( it already has anyway ) and the studio's ability to sell DVDs and license to cable / satellite operators. If you expect Netflix to carry new stuff you can bet prices will go WAY up for monthly subscriptions. WAY, WAY, UP.
Our local Hollywood and Blockbuster are both already gone. The only video rental store is a mom/pop operation that makes their cash by having a back-room porn operation.
I just dropped my Netflix to streaming only starting next month when the new price plan kicks in. I can see myself cancelling it down the road though only because streaming doesn't have new stuff available and I'm too cheap/don't watch enough DVDs to pay for the DVD plan too.
