I still have everything in working condition and use at home except for the Bozak Mixer and Turntables.
The club system came in 1978 of which I still have everything!

when I started I rented stuff for a year or so, they had a dual turntable coffin, small amp and some speakers all rough looking , I charged like 150/175/200 and paid rental of 50 , but they usually set it up and picked it up

first real equipment was 2 of the big single disc cd players in a homemade coffin with a radio shack mixer in the middle, a used QSC amp and two homemade built 15 inch speakers with horns, lasted about ten years,,,
 
@ Houston that was some pretty high end gear for the time

@DRZINC I used the PM 1.5 and 2s many times my buddy had a dozen or so of them. Clean, crisp, great tone, IMO one of the best amps ever made. By the time I could afford one they were pretty old and he wanted almost new price for one so I never did get one of my own

@ JP The first set of gear I ever used before I bought was the turntable coffin setup and a RS mixer in the middle. We were running Traynor Colums at the time I think they were taller than me back then lol. I'm racking my brain but I can't rememebr if it was the YSC 3 or 8

The Pioneer gear and the Technics deck I still own and they still work perfectly :)

I know, but I've become too attached to them over time and they work beautifully. The only maintenance I've done to them is cleaning up the insides and litle stuff. I expanded later with a Sansui amp and JVC speakers so I had a 2 amp 4 speaker setup. If I had pictures of the parties you would've seen all the cables, extension cords, etc. it was all about the party who care how it looked (1982,83,84,85) lol!!!

Jeff,
I had always had a penchant for getting the best that I could possibly afford. That system was my home system which I also used to do small house parties. I built the Preamp and Amplifier myself and they still are in service here at the house.
When I went into my first Professional Club Gig in 1978, I immediately went out and bought a full three way system with the scoops, mid horns and tweeter banks!
Now you know why I have little patience for newbies who want to get in the game and are not willing to spend the money to get good gear. Either do it right or don't do it at all is my motto.
 
I started in '93 with the RS mixer pictured, an old Ampex unbalanced corded mic, a pair of single tray CD decks from RS and a pair of RS PA amps (Gemsound). It was all mounted in a jerrybuilt case on wheels. Speakers were the RS Mach 3 ~ loaded six of them buggers. I still have a pair of the speakers here but the woofer surrounds are rotted away.

The mixer fed an RS EQ which fed an '80s vintage RS receiver, the ones that Pio built for RS back in the day. I modded an input jack set on the receiver so that the output to the Gemsound amps went through the receiver tone and volume controls. All together it was essentially a big home stereo rig.

And you talk about heavy... man, that case took two men and a mule to lift off the ground. I managed to get it moved around by setting one end on the truck tailgate first, then lifting the other side up on the truck. I'm pretty sure that's how I got that hernia years ago.

Still have the RS mixer and it still works. It was always slightly weak on the left channel for some reason but it worked.

Most of us started with said mixer and there is one thing I miss about it and none of the mixers I've owned and still use have is the tension or resistance both on the channel faders and crossfader they all required some extra finger muscle to move and that made things feel a lot better when mixing.

I'm with you 100% Jacob!

I hate sliders without tension. If I can't feel it, I can't work it.
 
Bought the following in 1981. I had 3 Technic 1200 turntables. (1 for backup) 2 Crown Miro Tech 1000 which I'm still using today! Numark mixer. Klipsch La Scala Speakers. Those were the days.
