If a client asked you for a copy of the playlist, would you give it to them?

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
are you talking about like music on a disc? If so, absolutely positively not.
 
I am not a pcdj so my performance doesn't automatically generate electronic play-lists and I am not going to prepare one using the old-school paper-pencil method.

However, if I were primarily a pcdj, I doubt my clients would even know or care, but I would not providing play-lists would doing so be part of my service.
 
If I was pc based, no problem, here's a list. If they wanted the mp3 files, sorry, but I keep things legal.
 
recently a guy wanted me to email him the songs and in which order they wre going to be played, I said thats kinda hard to do without a crowd in front of you, he understood, but he was weird lol,,
sometimes i have burned the first dance songs for the couple and gave it to them as a token,,
 
I don't see what the problem would be providing a paper list of music played at a past event to the client. If they are trying to lay grounds for some sort of complaint that you didn't play this song or that, I plainly tell all clients that not all music requests can or will be played except that which appear on their planner and Top 10 list all other music is not guaranteed to be played.... so yes no problem.

Why not.... what's the big deal... if it's someone trying to lodge a complaint.... why worry unless in your contract you somehow guarantee certain music to be played... if it's not spelled out in the contract why worry just give them the list.... maybe they just want to recreate their night.
 
When I perform, I play what the crowd likes to hear, I judge this bt audience eyeballin
I watch the finger, feet, legs and head wobllin, then I play those songs, and my floor stays packed

So you're worried that under scrutiny your client could find something they don't like and sue you somehow?

1. Unless you have it spelled out in your contract that such and such song will be guaranteed played and you didn't any complaint of "I didn't like this song or that" would be thrown out as just being a matter of opinion after the fact.

2. If you have it spelled out that a particular song or set of songs will be played as part of a 100% satisfaction guarantee.... oops your mistake.

Otherwise I still don't understand why not give them what they ask for.

Okay, for the skinny.

Saturday, we did 3 events. 2 jobs with uplighting and 1 with photobooth. On one of my jobs, I had a friend's DJ (he's a multi-op) doing music and my guy doing Live-pics (slideshow). Towards the end of the night I texted my guy to ask how things were going. Everything good. I asked him to tell the DJ to email me the playlist afterwards. His response, "You'll have to ask (his boss)". My initial reaction was "WTF?" but okay, I texted the multi-op friend. His response, "Why?" I was sorely tempted to fire back "Because I write the %@!@% checks." but instead, I explained to him that it's diligence in case there are questions later (CYA). Apparently, he's running 4 rigs and it never even occurred to him to keep his playlists for future reference. Besides the obvious CYA reasons, I now post mine to my website. I view it as good promo for prospective clients as well as extra material to boost google search rankings.

Just struck me as interesting.
 
I would to a point but....

it opens you up to other things that they may want refund for not playing some songs they ask for

as for me no thanks

you want to know what I played either take notes or dont ask for requests
 
Well I ask the bride & groom for a playlist and it is what they send me with my right to deviate a little to please the crowd, they still have the say so, some folks do not want line dances, if someone request it i refer them to the wedding party, usually they come running and say can you please play, other week a drunk bride told her planner the last song was not what she requested , i told the planner does she want to look at what she sent me,, duh
 
You want me to provide a list to help you be a selector like me, It's not a secret but a gift.
I can't provide any list without my copyrights, in other words. Its time to pay for a list.
