Hi Folks,

This is a notice for everyone. Starting today the trolling and baiting has to stop. I've been far to lax on it and it's negatively effected the community. If you're going to troll and bait even under the guise of a joke don't bother posting. You're wasting your and my time as it's going to be trashed and an infraction handed out.

I'd like us to get back to being a community that helps each other and accepts everyone regardless of their status in the industry.

Thanks,
Dan

Awww c'mon Danno -- it'll cost me $50 a month to turn the satellite dish back on... :yoOMG:

Is beating a dead horse still ok...? :deadhorse: yorofl:

Hey I baited when I went fishing will I get warned? LOL......

Seriously, we all need to know when to respond and when to pass a thread by, including me. There has been many times where I have impacted negatively to the community which I am sorry for. We need to think before we type and if your respond in a way that you would not like to be talked to, then don't respond at all.
Peace!

Well I say this with all seriousness. I don't like to be babied and I ain't gonna baby anyone. If I see a newbie on here posting for help with some BS equipment, I would just pass and not say anything to help. I try not to sugar coat anything because I feel everyone here had long stopped drinking Mama's Milk.
If someone posts a Gig report and all they are looking for is a pat on the back they won't get that from me. If I see something in their post that warrants criticism, I will criticise. I do try to give constructive criticism. However, some people don't like bitter medicine so if they complain I'll just put them on ignore. I don't intentionally want to step out of line but if I do offend someone I would hope they have the balls to PM me and tell me personally how they feel instead of complaining or whining.
I love all y'all. Everyone knows I have a passion for correct gear setup, speaker placement etc and I WILL call out the offenders when I see fit. If I did not care then I would keep silent. On the contrary I want everyone to excel in their gear and skills. It is for the betterment of everyone.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it! LOL

Just to add to Canute's thoughts...

It's a chat board, not a pat on the back board. That can be found at MB. :)

Kitchen + heat = too much for some. They should order take out.
Some give, but are not willing to take in return. Then throw a hissy fit at Danno.

The numbers are growing daily here, because of the free exchange of information, and the combined personalities of those doing it. Some are wacky -- I of course, am the only sane one here... :D

Almost all of us troll and bait to some extent -- the difference being, there are those who will do it, but won't take it back in stride, without whining to the teacher... ;)

Don't stamp out freedom of expression, because a few can't handle it...

I agree with Rick, people can have their own opinions and defend their beliefs, and I think we've handled some big debates properly. We have not insulted each other (Well damn you Canute, you called us Intelligent Morons) but at least he called us intelligent. The weather is hot but a little heat is good, specially for Ricky and electrical dysfunction yorofl: ;)

I'm not looking to stamp out free expression. That's part of what make us ODJT. There is just a way of talking to people. Most of us on here are business people or deal with the public regularly. If you wouldn't talk to a customer in the tone that you're using here, you shouldn't be talking that way here. That's all I'm saying. The way a few people act here I wonder how they ever close a sale. It's just boggles my mind how one person must have essentially two different personalities.

There is nothing wrong with honest opinions, feedback, or defending your position. Posting in a manner or tone which makes the receiver feel 2 inches tall is a problem. Of course, there is some stuff (like accusations of plagiarism) that should be dealt with privately unless you're 100% sure and the other party has been unresponsive.

You want to joke around and all we have the pub and it's sub-forums. Regularly trading barbs with someone is out. Time and time again it starts out as a joke, ends with bad feelings on one end and a headache for me. A big part of the problem has been me being so lax on it. "Oh, they're two regulars screwing around with each other I'll leave it alone." is what I say and it snowballs into a problem.

In the words of John Lennon "Give Peace a Chance". :)

Hey Dan,
I can fix that headache for you :D:D:D:D and I won't charge you a penny ;)

If I gave the piece a chance she would be out every night without me, wasa matter wit yu? R u crazie? LOL

Oops you meant Peace! As Rob would say "My Bad"

I love the fact that you are so pro-active on this board. It is clearly amongst the first of a couple of thousand reasons that this is the best forum out there.

But, to be honest, I am uncertain about your interpretation of bait-and-troll. If I offend, by your standards or others (even Rick's) please let me know by PM so I can more correctly respect this community. As it stands now, I don't know what your "out of bounds" looks like.

Yer got to remember. It was Dan's Birthday and someone played a dirty trick on him so now he is pissed and exercising his might. That hot blind date with Henrietta was not such a good idea. Take heed, never do a blind date someone whose name is Male yet sounds Female. After two subs and a couple of beers yer liquor tab starts going up and when he is really a major part of she then all bets are off so Danno is no longer a happy camper. Someone riled the guy!yorofl:yorofl:yorofl:

Thanks Hugh. That's part of the problem with setting policy. Baiting, trolling, and abrasiveness are all open to interpretation. That's why folks get PM'ed at least once (most likely many many times) and it's talked about back stage before it comes to a temporary ban. Repeat offenders have already been put on notice and I'm generally a little less lenient with them because they already know the deal. I cannot think of a time where any of your posts have been out of line and those goes for probably 95% of our members.

Canute what am I going to do with you? I cannot even afford a blind date these days. :sqlaugh:

Post a list of offenders and when they serve their penance remove them. All the behind the scenes stuff is what causes the baiting in the first place. If offenders are labeled they can work on their problem and other posters will know they have a tendency to start trouble and can be ignored imeadiately. Some may not realize they are a problem poster.

Just my thoughts.

A list? Be careful what you ask for...

Alphabetically, and only alphabetically :)triwink:), DJPaul comes before DJRox.
