Well not really, but I did come across a sweet deal on 2 JBL SR 4725A cabs in great condition with covers. I was in the market for another set of speakers (why? I really don't know!) I really could not find anything good out there for what I wanted to spend. I was going to jump on the EV Live X series but I decided to stick it out and hold out for good old made in the USA quality.

Can any of you guys give me any opinions on the JBL's (SR 4725a) series? I know the current SRX series is awesome. I will be picking up the speakers from my friend this weekend. I will push them with some good old QSC iron. Power Lite 4.0 amp. I think this combo should be great. I will take pictures as soon as I get a chance.

That seems to be a rather unique box. It see them in a 1997 brochure listing them as a 600 watt 4 ohm keyboard monitor. They say it can be used for general PA use, but it would be short throw and it they imply that it doesn't have a pole mount and it weighs......................... are you ready? 92 pounds!

He has gone over to the dark side! :yo1eye: I thought that I was the only one there! :yosatan:

Good catch and observation Scott. I made a mistake. The box is the SR 4725a. I had a chance to hear them a few weeks back and they pound nicely. My friend changed his cabs to all EAW's and the JBL's were stored in his garage looking for a new home. This guys babies his gear and this is why I jump on them at 400.00 per box. It's a 15" 2 way box with a 2" horn.

Those are circa 1997. I have used them in several clubs and owned their smaller cousin the MR925.

When I decided to purchased my MRs I was down to three options for mains, EV T-series, JBL MRs, and the SR 4725s.

I went with the MRs because of size. Had the SRs been better suited for the space they were to be installed, I was sold on the SRs.

I've attached the SR brochure for you to have.

Awesome Rox! Thanks.
You are very welcome.

P.S. It may have actually been the SR4726a that was in the mix, it has been a while. Same bass drive, larger horn and different HF driver. Matched with the 4719a sub, my system never failed to get mega-props from my peeps.

Way to go, Rox...sharing, the reason this board has such a good reputation. :)

And, "JohnThe1" I presume that you still have the Yorkvilles? My 750's are serving me well. :)

Hi Art. Glad to hear the 750's are serving you well. They are really great speakers. I sold my 750's a few months back, but I did get 4 very reliable years out of them and the new owner is quite happy with them. I replaced them with a set of passive Yorkville E1152's. I wanted to go passive again.

For the same Price of $400 I rather have new passive Live-X. Those speakers are 14 years old!

Hi Cam. I am only getting them because I know the original owner and they are in great shape for the age. When these boxes were new they sold for 1200.00 each. The Live X boxes are no where in the same league of these boxes. It's comparing an entry level Chinese speaker to a Professional Club style box. Their is no comparison. I highly doubt EV Live X boxes will give any owner 14 years of service. I am buying them to form a third rig for a nice retro look to go along with my 1210's. They will be powered by a QSC Power Lite 4.0. This amp alone is the same price of 4 Live X powered speakers.

Hey John...If I had the money last year when you were selling, I most likely would have seriously inquired about them. If I'm not mistaken, I picked up the Yorkville sub, LS801PB (1500 watts). They are well suited together.

Don't let anyone dissuade you John. They don't make speakers as rugged as they used to do. The same was said to me about my scoops. Yet they still kick azz even after 32 years and even though they are 15" each they sound like 18"s. I have yet to hear another 15" give both punch and boom. Enjoy your purchase.

I agree Houston. You can't find this same level of quality in most of the speakers made today. This rig will serve me well for many years to come.

That sub you purchased is by far one of the best sounding 18"s for the money. I own a set of of the LS 800p (carpet version) and I love them. You have an awesome combo with the 750's and the 801p. The 750's sound great by themselves without a sub and that says a lot for a plastic powered box. I miss my 750's but I had the passive itch again.

Do you still have your RCF cabs Art? I have a set of 325i's that I will never part with. I love them too much.

JohnThe1...I've still got the RCF (matched set) 12" tops and 15" subs. Although the subs are only 400 watts ea, they make the ART 200A's sound like 15" tops. Crystal clear and a decent thump, but never like the LS801PB. :)

I use the RCF system for smaller gigs and the Tops for Wedding Ceremony. In a really small venue, I've used two RCF tops and one sub and it sounded just fine. In fact, I've even used the Yorkville 750's with the 15" RCF 800A's (coupled) subs. The sound there is pretty good too. However, I now just use the York mains and sub and turn the volume down for mid-size events. And when I need more presence, I add the RCF tops as side filler to the Yorkvilles system. I'd like to have another LS801 sub but would then be overpowered at Low end...and then need to buy more tops. Sometimes you just can't win (lose)! :)
