Overall, I can't complain too much about my Numark gear, except that I find it rather noisy. I've not especially enjoyed my Denon 2500. So I am looking for something similar to a Mixdeck, but that sounds a whole lot cleaner....

what piece of gear is that?

It would be hard to find a Mixdeck equivalent since it is 4 things in 1.
1. CD Player
2. Midi controller
3. Ipod dock.
4. Built in Mixer

Lots of CD Player / Hard Drive/USB players like but no built in Mixer :
Denon 1200
CDJ350
and most Pioneers

Lots of Cotrollers with Mixers like:
Mixtrack
The new Denon offeringgs
The New Pioneer offering
Numark NS7
Vestax VCI series

The closest Mixer/CD/Ipod dock is actually also a Numark but without the MIDI controller function. The new CDMix 3 I think. Somone correct me if Im wrong. But it doesnt have an internal HD like the Denon 2500. And neither does the Mixdeck.

You can get 2 of the CDs with CD, External USB/HD connectivity and Midi Control like the Denon DNS1200 or CDJ350. Then get a small mixer and case. These are the most compact out there so the size compared to the Mixdeck wont be that much.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned all the Hercules units!

I have a Hercules RMX and I love it but it does not have XLR outputs. I will Keep my RMX when I get the NS6 since it is a compact unit and can go places the Numark cant.

I'd love to get an RMX, but no XLR outs and only one mic input.

They are great units, otherwise, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Are there any controllers that have two mic inputs and XLR outs?

I think that American DJ VMS4 does.

No. (Correction the VMS4 has 2 mic inputs) Get a dedicated little mic mixer, something like this..

If you have space in your rack you can use what I use this mixer/preamp, it is very flexable. I use it ahead of my systems processing so all my signals go through this first.

The VMS4 does, as does the Denon MC-6000. I've owned both, but I prefer the Denon unit over the American Audio unit.

I saw the new Mix 3,4,5 Numark and it looks great. However, if they havent improved the pre amp etc in the unit from the early days I would not buy it.
