I'm thinking about upgrading cases. But I'm also looking at the cost recovery. What do you folks think this would be worth used. Also if I sell it the buyer would be paying shipping. New price is 289 dollars. It is a couple of years old but in perfect shape. Let me know what you guys think.

My formula for used gear: price = 50% of original (not current) reatil, if less than 2-3 years old - 10% for each year over 3 - fair reduction for any wear and tear - cost to ship.

I'd pretty much agree...

You lose 50%, once the item comes out of the box -- unless it's an esoteric item, that has some specific value to someone...

Well ain't that a pleasant thought - all our gear is worthless. From a different angle, it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it!

=)

That is almost correct. Add a single space after the h in worthless and you are getting closer.

That is why those who place a value on their service and performance with a heavy reliance on the gear used are probably going to be viewed by potential clients as worth less than those that consider professional gear as a simple and necessary component.

....and the someones all have different formulas.

Good Luck nextgen.

For what it is worth, and based on almost 30 years of experience, I have realized more benefit from using "expired" gear for back up and, eventually for donations or discarding.

Agreed. My backup equipment is probably worth nothing marketwise but it's a very valued piece to me and my clients. I've got 24 years of experience.
