no media controllers (Hard drives that is)?

I have the HD2500 from denon and wanted to get something similar to keep around as a backup... but noticed all Controllers now days are only for laptops? what happened, or is it me that haven't been around for a while.

Would think Denon would offer still something like.
Are there any other good brands that offer this feature still?

What do you mean by " noticed all Controllers now days are only for laptops? ".
I have a Pioneer MEP 7000 that is a Stand alone player with two USB ports for Hard Drives. You can make playlists right in it if you want. It even plays Karaoke Discs.

you're right but besides that nothing else out would do that. I checked Denon and the only one current ones are some of the tabletop players.
 
American DJ has one. Behringer, Hercules............. all of them allow HD add ons as far as I know.
