I'd say it's the equipment causing the cdr to freeze, not the cdr itself.

I'll give that as a possibility.... with an or... Or it could be that the CDR's are cheap and the silver too thin.... if you can nearly see through the CDR the silver is too thin and is a mark of a very cheaply made CDR.

I've always had good luck with Sony and Memorex CDR's

The only reason that I say that it could be the equipment is because I had that problem with my Denon DNS 1200's until I downloaded a new update for them. I only use Sony CDR's and had the freezing cdr problem.

I have used the cheapest of cheap and still have them in my collection after 8-10 yrs. Take care of them first of all. If they will burn they most likely will have little problems playing as long as your laser is kept clean. I do prefer TDK, Memorex and a couple others. Anyone remember the black Discs?

Denon's tend to have a mind of their own with CD-R's, however, cheap or expensive if you burn the disc at the lowest speed the problems seem to have been taken care of ;) The burned CD's that are done at full speed tend to work a few times but then they seem to go down the drain.

I have a whole bunch of the black Samsungs, they've been holding well in the cars CD changers.

Now I've only been using Sony's and no problems have come up.

I use Taiyo Yuden (now JVC) exclusively, and don't burn them at maximum speed. I think I usually do 8x.

I mostly use Verbatim & Sony. I had a problem a while back using Memorex & Princo. It wasnt so much of a problem really but they took longer to read when i compared them to the Sonys & Verbatim. It was only a few seconds more that the reading took but this can be crucial when you're changing cds on the fly ready to line up the next song.
I noticed to with the Princo ones which are very cheap that after a year or two the disc became more difficult to read & it wasnt surface damage, possibly the die used to make the pits & lands [1's & zeros] starts to disintegrate.

I have found it's the relationship between

the CDR you buy
the recorder you use on your computer
and the player you play it on.

I have NO luck with expensive Maxell CDR's
they never even finish burning before an error message pops up.
But I can buy the cheapo Staples store brand CDR's
and they work like a charm for years!

If you don't have a computer how are you burning cds, or posting here?
