I own two Martin Acrobats and just love them! With that being said, the gobo wheel selection leaves a bit to be desired. Has anyone ever pulled a gobo wheel out of an Acrobat before? Was it a big job? I am thinking about having two custom wheels made for my lights with stock patterns from one of the big gobo suppliers. Your thoughts... :triconfused:

That's an original idea Steve. Can you get this wheel from another Martin light or would it have to be custom made? Just curious. OOps just caught the custom design part of your post. Still a great idea.

I miss my Acrobats!:yosigh: But at least I know they moved on to a happy home and a great owner.

This idea was addressed on another forum in 2007; the consensus (with some guidance from Apollo and the always-trusty Bill Cronheim) was that it was going to cost a minimum of $300 to get a custom gobo wheel made for the Acrobat - that's the price per wheel. If you wanted to have a custom gobo included on the wheel, you'd be looking at a price of around $600.

The reason for the high price is because there is currently no company making a gobo wheel the same size as the Acrobat's, and because the Acrobat's gobo wheel has the dichroic glass filters attached to it, not on a separate wheel. The manufacturing process is a little more detailed than just stamping the patterns onto the wheel.

Brendan, yeah I remember the thread. In fact, I think I may have started it. The reason I bring it up again now is for a couple of reasons.

First off... Hopefully, we are a little more technically advanced than we were 3 years ago. Lol!

Secondly, we didn't have Ben back then. :)

Besides, I may just pull the wheel out and drill out a couple of the gobos if the wheel is fairly easy to remove. I have been a goldsmith for over 20 years so I'm pretty sure I can handle it. That and I'm a back-yard mechanic and S.O.B., Son Of a Bodyman!
