This guy needs a facade (and so much more)

I am surprised at the majority of the feedback on this thread - First, I want to be clear that I did not intend to offend anyone with my thoughts on the picture I posted. The majority of the feedback I read was in favor or the pictured DJ and his equipment / gear / set up. I found this surprising.

I understand a DJ's job is to be heard, however we are also seen by our clients and their guests. Did the guests at this party have a good time? I would say yes. Was there more than one guest that turned a "hairy eyeball" to the DJ's setup? I would also say yes.

I have never claimed (and never will) to be the most professional DJ, with the most expensive equipment. In fact, my entire set up probably cost less than the two moving heads in that picture.

I will however, claim to always do my best to keep my set up neat, clean, and as appealing to the customer as possible. Whether it is a $1,000+ wedding or a $350 backyard party. (the exception is gigs for my family which are free)

I'm not one to rock the boat, and I don't often speak my mind, even in forums like this, so please forgive me if I upset you and I hope to continue to learn from all of your experiences and knowledge.

And in closing, this is a picture from a gig I did in June of 2009. This was on a big property in the hills, in an unfinished backyard. I was set up in dirt, a few feet away from a BBQ pit (essentially a big hole in the ground) I did my best to make my set up look as neat as possible. In hindsight, I see the plywood that I set some equipment on to keep it out of the dirt should have been painted black...:sqfrown:

Looks like a back yard gig to me! Hell, my setup looked like that when I had a small party in my backyard. So What? Moreover, maybe he was running a test on his set up...

I was the subject of a similar personal attack a couple years back, and I tell you, it just proved to me how insecure and threated by me the poster was. Some people just feel the need to trash others without provocation. I'm glad to see the larger proportion of ODJT members understand there may be more than meets the eye here.

Cheers!

Ronster nothing wrong with that setup - looks neat and professional

Looks like a yard sale to me....

It does look like a yard sale.

Ronster,
I think the majority of the people here would not reccomend a set up like the one pictured. But most of us all had worse set ups at one time. Most of us also have done certain gigs where a beautiful classy set up was not the top priority. We've also had unique requests from clients that we normally wouldn't do....and wouldn't want to have a picture of it judged.
So I think it's more about not judging other's set ups than it is being in favor of that exact set up.

Personally, at this stage in my career, I would never have a set up like that for any reason. It's extremely busy. Nice gear, but like Houston mentioned, if a sudden rainfall starts, he is screwed. At an outside gig, keeping it trimmed down and simple..while still being able to do the job needed...is important to me.
