After 6 years of teaching by day and DJ'in by night I am less than a week away from being full time in this crazy biz. While I will miss the students I will not miss teaching at 7AM after getting in at 3AM that morning. Very excited to have time to do the little things...like:

1. Build cases for my lasers, LED "up-lights", black lights, strobes....
2. Build another facade for myself and two more for two of my guys....
3. Organize my music, defrag my hard drives, update my guys hard drives...
4. Add attachment points to my trailer...aluminum racks on the top to hold truss...
5. Get T-shirts made for me and my guys to wear during load in...
6. Redesign the website...maybe go flash....
7. Change my company name and everything associated with that....
8. Go meet with as many venue managers face to face as possible...
9. keep track of EVERYTHING better....milage, expenses, client info....
10. SLEEP IN ON MONDAY MORNINGS!!!!!!!

And that's just my "to-do" list for the first week :sqerr:

Good Luck!

I am thinking about doing the same thing, but I have to wait a bit longer before I have enough $$ banked away to support my self and spending habits during down times. Retail Jobs are a PITA.

Kris, what made you decide to make the switch and give up teaching? Inquiring minds want to know...
Will you be going after the school market or just weddings and corporate?
Good luck, by the way!

PS: My main career up until not that long ago was being a master goldsmith. To many hours at the bench, +40 year old eyes, not enough pay, cheap off-shore stuff and the high price of gold all melted together (goldsmith humor) and made me begin the transition to full-time mobile DJ a couple years ago. It was a wise move on my part.

Whatever you put your mind to do, you can do it! Just set your goals and stick to them. you'll do just fine! Its a business thats all. If you like what you are doing then it makes it a whole lot easier to manage.

I'm just tired of working two full time jobs....and not seeing my family. I have 4 DJ's to keep busy, some good relationships established with venues and some exciting stuff on the horizon. We will try to do it all. From bar gigs to corporate events. Our bread and butter are weddings and proms.

I'm glad to hear you got away from something that you didn't totally love and are living your life the way you want to...glad to hear it's working so well for you!

Well I guess today is my first day of being a full-time DJ! I worked in the yard, cleaned out my truck, now sitting down with a Bud Light and working on the computer - so far life is pretty good:sqwink:

Hope everyone is off to a great summer and wedding season.
