The company is Good Knight Entertainment so I use Goodnight Sweetheart.

Depends on the guests that are still left, even then if the B&G have a last song requested, their choice is the last song.
 
That's What Friends are For. For some events we get everyone in a circle around the guest(s) of honor. It is kind of a dedication to them and their friends and family.

The bride & groom usually pick it (the last dance song)

As I'm saying goodnight to everyone, I have playing low in the background "Take 5" by Dave Brubeck, after about a minute, I'll slowly bring it down till it's just barely audible.

I can't stand to play a final dance song & then there's a dead awkward silence in the room.

You may or may not want to do this but I always play the B&G's last song as the second to last song. I make an announcement that this is the last song of the evening and the B&G would be honored of you would join them on the dance floor etc...I then follow it up with another song as people are getting together their belongings. I find it makes for a nice transition rather than the lights coming on and the music stopping cold. I of course let the B&G in on this during the consultation. Again you may or may not want to incorporate this into you repertoire :)
 
I also originally used Ray Charles

but subliminally it was sending negative. Dontcha come Back Here No More........... Happy Trails by Roy rogers a very cool man whom I had pleasure of meeting or Van Halens version much more positive. Again the Porky Pig one always got such a round of applause and laughter to conclude the night. Semisonic somewhat somber. Zeplin Bring it On Home or ZZ TOp Thank you much more positive.:sqwink:

If it's a wedding reception we'll close with the B&G's first dance song, getting the remainder on the floor for one last buckle shiner.

Otherwise, we'll often close with Garth Brooks' The Dance or David Ball's When The Thought Of You Catches Up With Me.

Lee Ann Womack's I Hope You Dance is a nice closing tune as well. :)
 
Last dance or last song? If they haven't picked a last dance, I tend to lean towards Don't Stop Believing. I end 90% of my events with Low Rider by Gary Hoey. Good driving, guitar rock to keep them tapping there toes on the way out.
 
I dont have a special song...because I go with the flow..and try to pick the most fitting song.

Ah..come to think of it..I got a song that works pretty well when it is appropriate...you know..the crowd who just never..and I mean NEVER wants to quit..and that is LITTLE WILLY. So I guess I "kinda" have one in mind.
 
Your right Mr. Tuck now I find myself closing out with songs like:
Don't funk with my heart- Black eyed peas
Back in black- Acdc
or
Chicken fried, But I have found my way into a different type of event these days. The closer is always decided "in the moment" which is typically on a high note.
