Considering Denon HD-2500

I would like to buy one, I got a guitar center flyer they had them for $299 but it seems none are in stock.

I'm considering using this with virtual dj. Is it just a controller or soundcard also I don't understand how it works.

I am hoping I will be able to use it as a controller and backup media player without much trouble.
 
I bought one and even though I haven't played any gigs with it it seems great so far. It can either be used as a stand alone controller using a CD deck, USB Hard Drive or the built in HDD.

Or you can use it with MIDI and control a plethora of DJ programs.

If you use it as a controller the output would come from the laptop. If you use it as a stand alone controller it would come from the 2500 it self.

I plan on using the 2500 as a stand alone unit. You can load up a virtually unlimited amount of songs with an external hdd and it supports search with a USB keyboard.
 
With the latest Firmware update which mostlikely you'll have to install even on a new one.... you set it to Midi as the source and it becomes a ASIO multi-channel (2) sound card that allows you to feed each player to a separate channel on your mixer and it also allows you to control VDJ.

Once you load the hdd or attach an external drive formated to FAT32 with music you can use it as a stand-alone or in combination with your favorite DJ mixer....

I've used this to broadcast live over the internet and at one actual GIG so far and will be using it next weekend at a wedding on the 9th.

You can use it as a sound card now? What firmware is that in? Did not know this...

It functions beutifully and as expected the only thing I had to customize was the Effect's buttons.... heck even without a manual DJ mixer you can still crossfade between decks from just the HD2500 but, I would advise at a minimum a 2 channel DJ mixer with crossfader.

Where is it shown in the VDJ config menu ? I have a trial version and nothing shows up. Perhaps you need it connected to display ?

Currently my MAIN setup is Laptop USB to Gigaport AG sound card to Denon X500 Mixer.

What would I need to use the Denon 2500 and VDJ without taking apart my USB to Gigaport setup ?

OR I also have the Denon 2500 paired with a Denon 050 mixer in a separate case if it would make the setup simpler.

This last is my configuration.... next to the RCA jacks on the 2500 are two USB ports one is for the PC and the other is for periferals such as a keyboard, hdd or other compatable usb input device...

You have to connect the 2500 via the USB to PC connection and assumeing you have the latests firmware v.1400 you press the source button and using the selector select MIDI and push the selector knob....

the 2500 screen will change to indicate that you are in MIDI mode.

If you are using VDJ 6.0.1 or higher it should imediately recognize the 2500 and the Playlist buttons will light up blue.

Then you just go into VDJ sound configuration and configure it for an External 2 channel mixer and select ASIO from the sound card selection and apply....

Now as long as everything went right, which it should, the 2500 will now control the majority of VDJ's primary functions and the DN-x50 the rest...

I disable the software crossfader because I use the DN-X50 instead.
 
Rob did you set it up with Rockit? Were you able to use the back cue on the wheels of the HD 2500? The other FX buttons? Etc?

Back Cue? I don't know I use the jog wheels to search for start points but have no idea what back cue does.... the three Effects buttons have to be tought but only need to be taught once on one deck for both to work....

I have not tried it with Rockit... but just might download the demo just to see.... I just prefer VDJ
 
Ok - Probably not what you want to hear - but if you are looking to control Virtual DJ - get the 4500 instead. Midi control from the 2500 was an afterthought, and while it works - so many things just don't. Control of the LCD screen for example.

BUT... The 2500 DOES have great value over the 4500 when you look in the big picture.

1st - it's a player with a 40gb drive in itself. So it can be a digital backup to your pc.

2nd - if you decide to go serato and want to avoid all the midi overhead on your notebook, you can rip timecode to MP3s and play it right through the SL1/3 to control serato. probably can do this for VDJ too

3rd - now that something has dropped the price - it's a STEAL! Wonder why the 4500 isn't dropping now that the 5000 is out with ITCH?

Overall though - I bought my 2500 for $450 USED?!!??! I bought it because the 4500s were totally impossible to get, but I have to say I DO LOVE IT!

Oh and yeah - don't forget - the thing is REALLY DEEP! gotta remember that when planning your case
 
I got mine when they had the fire sale on them before Christmas. 299 was the average price, but now they seem to be few and far between. Hope you can find one. I really like my 2500. Great piece of gear.

I got mine for $299.00 brought in a few cans of soup for a food drive and got an additional 10% off. ;)

No way I'd pay the price GC is showing online.... that's gotta be an error.
 
Nlfx may have a few more. They were out when I was looking. I picked mine up from GC for $299. Had a $100 giftcard though. So $200 for the HD2500 was worth it.
