Hey all, I'm just starting to get into DJing for real (not using friend's setups anymore), and instead of going with his traditional vinyl setup, I'm hoping to use Rane Serato Scratch Live. I was wondering if I would be able to use a pair of Technic 1200s (or does anyone have anyother recommendations?) with the Scratch Live, and if so, what type of cords I'd need. I'm also thinking about using the Rane TTM mixer.. I'm primarily gonna be playing hardstyle, house, progressive house, some trance, and DnB at house parties, and hopefully clubs eventually. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I had the Rane TTM56 mixer for 3 years, and after 3 years, 5 hours use every single day of scratching and doing events also which were 7 hours long, it never had a single problem, and thew crossfade was just like new. Its the best scratch dj mixer in the world, a most professional scratch djs will say the same thing. I'm absolutely sure that the cables (dual phono-dual phono) you'd need come boxed with the Serato Scrathc Live package. You get 2 time coded vinyl that you put on top of the Technics turntables and connect them to the dj mixer, then the cables go out the dj mixer into the Serato unit (its a black box). Then cables go out of the Rane Serato black box to an amplifer and then to passsive speakers, or active monitors (whichever you have).

And also, would the Rane TTM56 be the best mixer choice if i was primarily interested in spinning house, hardstyle, trance etcetc, with Serato Live, or is there a better one?

No, you just plug the turntables into the black box, and then plug the black box into your pc's input on the soundcard. Then you go out of the output of your soundcard to your amplifier, then to your speakers. Or if you have active monitors, out your soundcard into the amplifier on the back of your active speakers. you don't need dual soundcards. The Rane TTM56 is a fantastic mixer and would still be awesome mixing house music, trance or anything. Its only if you want to use filters to manipulate the sound (like house djs do all the time) while you're dj'ing, that you'd need a different mixer. Personally, I never manipulate filters on dj mixers. I just leave the song playing, because if you use filters all the time, it ruins the song people are trying to listen to. But, if you want to filter the songs live, then try and Allen & Heath Xone 42 pictured here :

Sorry for the large image, but it gives you a brilliant view of this beautiful mixer.
And available here :

Or if you're from the usa, here :

Its a fantastic mixer, has filters, excellent sound quality (near Rane quality, but not quite a s good), and has a 'very sharp' setting for the crossfade for scratching. Its a bit more mkoney, if you wanna scratch and also mixe house, trance, hard house, uk hardcore, anything, this maybe the mixer for you. Plus, as a bonus, its got excellent channel input metering, which means you can definately keep an eye on the level at every stage of the mixing process.

Even though the Rane TTM56 or 57 has the Serato Scratch live built in, would that Allen & Heath one be better for making the mixes or would the Rane be the better choice just because it works with the Serato Scratch so well?

thanks for all your help

Thats something that only you can tell, because it depends on what you want from the mixer. If you want effects like filters, then the better mixer would be the Allen & Heath. But if you want Serato, then the better mixer would be the Rane TTM57. I couldn't possibly tell you which is better because only you know what you want from a mixer.
