QUOTE=DJ Wes;334580]Jon,

Have you actually taken delivery of the Zippy? If so, can you point me to where you bought yours?[/QUOTE]

Hey Dave,

I heard from Silvio.... :)

**********

Just to let those of you who are getting used to the 2500 - it is a tool that has it's uses. Just like any other tool, it has some quirks.

Wes makes a good point - Playlists are a nice thing to have. Doing them off-line with the Music Manager software allows you to work with your external HD, then connect it to the Denon & go to work @ your gig.

Update the firmware within the Denon- I believe the most current unit is ver 1400. You'll need your serial # to register it online & get the download.

I have noticed that doing playlists for cocktail music/dinner sets, etc - if you want to let it play tracks back-to-back with no dead air, check your file to see if there is any quiet time @ the end of the track....I didn't have this problem with PCDJ FX, but since going to the Denon, it's something that has cropped up....no answer was ever given to me by Silvio about this...

Finally, in a note from Silvio, the reason for the drop was that the unit is approaching 3 years in age - WOW - I can't believe I've had my first unit for that long...:)

Thanks for the info Joe.

If a unit approaches 3 years old, that is no reason to drop the price. I think their is more to the reason and the Denon folks are not saying much.
I bought my CDJ's 3 years ago and the price went up from 1095.00 my cost each to 1499.00. Same for other gear that I own. I never see Rane lowering there prices because of age.

Either way the 2500 is a good unit and even at this price I may look into one. I think it's going to be discontinued in my opinion.

most often when fire sales happen they are making way for the next new line replacing it. Do you know where I can get a Technics 1200 Mk 1 Turntable John The 1? New in the box?

Nah, that would be too logical Scott...

The kid's gonna wait until the night before his show with it, then have an anxiety attack, then call me for support since he knows I have one now... :sqwink: :sqlaugh:

Nope. And I did start reading the manual last night. AND I can still run Rockit off my lappy.

Jon. I can get my hands on the 1200 and 1210 MKII's but it will be hard to find any MK1's. Maybe on Ebay? The MKII's are selling for about 440.00 each.

John I was being sarcastic. LOL my point being new models come out replacing the old ones with newer technology only a handful of gear has gone yrs without being replaced with a newer model.

I'm still bettin' they got stuck with a boatload, because they priced them too high...

Some bigwig in corporate looked at the P&L, and pulled the plug. Said lets get rid of our stock, and try something else...

If they had a replacement already in the pipeline, it would have been leaked already...

Now to that bigwig's amazement, they found the price point they should have used in the first place, and they could have kept the model going for some time.

Just my thoughts... :)

Yes, "Dave" = Chuck = Papa Deuce.... :)

Sorry about the abrupt ending to my last post - at the ambulance today - have had a few calls & trying to post in-between can sometimes be a challenge.

According to Silvio, they are not phasing out the 2500. They are still supporting it, but will be gearing their marketing more towards the 5000 & ITCH controller(s)? If I got that correct...

But, I'll buy Rick's reasoning... sounds like they want to be selling more of 'em & this is how we do it....:p

You guys that are getting them for under $300 are getting a smokin' deal.
If I needed to buy another one, I would have no problem paying $800+
They are worth it to me. I love it.

So, You got a cool piece of electronic equipment, and you leave it in the box but just take out the manual and start reading?

We are going to need to see your man card.

:sqwink:

You should have started playing with it, get frustrated, post here, and THEN read the manual!

For $300 bucks, it's a nice add on. For $800, no way. It's basically a big ipod. You still need an external HD to compensate for the small 40GB capacity. For $800, you may as well get a sweet laptop/mini and your favorite DJ software.

Or you can replace 40GB hard drive with bigger one (voiding warranty .... but for a $300 device .... not a big deal IMO).

The biggest supported size is 127GB, EIDE/ATA only (sorry no SATA). Nowawdays an 120-160GB EIDE/ATA drive can be had for around $55.

Doing the math with 120GB drive, your new capacity (MP3, assuming 3:30 per song):

approx. 15,300 songs @ 320kbps
approx. 19,100 songs @ 256kbps
approx. 25,500 songs @ 192kbps

My laptops have not failed me yet...yet I read dj's "accepting" a lock up per night or glad they have back up...In 4 years I've never had to be "glad" for back up....I've never had to use it.....Now you have to have play lists to use it effectively and now need to find a spot for a keyboard...and that 2 inch screen

Wasn't that why you didn't want a laptop?

Sorry folks...as with Hank; even at $299, I really don't see any benefit at all, can some one give m,e any real benefits over a laptop, other that the ability to "wiki wiki" with the wheels (I don't see that as a benefit)...

My lappys never failed me either :)

The benefit I see, is if you want a controller for your software, that can do double duty as a backup player (if your computer should somehow crash). So, instead of having a controller AND say a CD player for backup, you combine them into one unit.

Given that criteria, it's a bennie at $300 -- at $800, it is not (IMHO).

I don't prefer software controllers myself, but I know lots of folks like a shiny rack mounted thingy, with lots of lights, and are seemingly afraid of mice :D

For putting in a rack. Some would rather only have a rack.

the little screen is easily viewed by even my partied out eyes.
I however will add my laptop to control my Rockit software.
