Who was the first Mexican American Rock n Roll Star?

Desi Arnaz....no, wait a minute...he was Cuban....:sqwink:

Hey -- I resemble that... :sqerr:

Oh wait, I'm half Italian -- close enough for gov't work though :sqlaugh:

I honestly have no clue, without looking that one up...

Look up to my post I got it right first...... :sqwink:

Aww Shyt! Yes you are correct, you did get it first. My bad!!! :sqembarrassed: Next time talk faster! LOL

Something to think about
Ritchie Valens is considered to have broken barriers with La Bamba , a spanish Rock and Roll song and he of Mexican/Hispanic heritage. If he did not die, do you think he had more left in the tank or was he going to flame out like a lot of 1/2/3 Hit wonders back then.
Buddy Holly would have done great things, I think, Big Bopper was a novelty act, so where did that leave Valens?

Valens would have kept putting stuff out. He had too much stuff riding on his shoulders to just flame out after a couple of hits.

I whole heartedly agree.

Listening to the early Beatles music, I find little that hinted at the greatness that would become their legacy, towards the middle and end of their career as a band. Similarly, while I like Richie Valens music, I don't know that he had the chance to either become great, or be proven as a "one hit wonder" (or a few hits, at most). I wish the world could have found out.

Valens would have been a superstar and Holly would have dethroned Elvis as the King of Rock and Roll. If it weren't for Holly the Beatles would have sounded alot different

I agree with Buddy Holly becoming MAJOR. He was a great writer and and great performer. I love EVERY DAY and TRUE LOVE WAYS.

Valens was a true "barrier breaker" who wasn't afraid to show off his heritage. That alone would have probably sent him pretty far up the fame-scale.

As a friend once said to me...
why is that so many truly talented performers die young....
and the sucky ones seem to live forever!
